I had such fond memories of Black Elm Coffee that I drove from Nashville to the Gallatin square this weekend to have a cup of coffee and relax. When I went back to Black Elm I was disappointed. I ordered a hot latte, an iced latte, and a single shot of espresso and all 3 of the drinks were not up to the standard I remember them to be. The espresso itself was under-extracted and was not drinkable as a single shot. After a few sips, I poured it into my iced latte to mask the taste. Additionally, as my husband and I decided which drink to order, the barista pulled the shot and let it sit until we ordered. By time the drink was ready for the shot, it was definitely a “dead shot”, which is not good coffee practice. The shop is located in a historic building, giving it a cute atmosphere, and there are places to park all along the square. There are not many tables available directly near the Black Elm space and very few outlets, so this is not a great place if you are looking to work remotely. Black Elm is ideal for meeting a friend and grabbing a sweet latte, but the black coffee quality was not Black Elm’s best and the ability to work from here is limited. I believe that Black Press coffee is still a good coffee roaster but this may not have been the best experience, which is why I am rating this shop as 3 stars...
Read moreRidiculously small cup for over $5! Says they close at 6, I got there at 5. Ordered bagel w/cream cheese and was told they don't do that after 2 although it wasn't under their "not available after 2" menu. Ordered a large black coffee and was told there was only a little left and he wasn't going to brew more because they were gerring ready to close (in an hour!). Had already paid so he asked if I'd like an Americano. Said "no if I can't get the black rather have a flat white". So the flat white I got was sooo small, see pic. It's the same size I saw him give a customer before me when he called it a kiddy coffee. This is what paying over $5 gets you for a flat white when they don't have black coffee. I had gone to another one of their locations around Nashville earlier in the week and the attitude from the people there was not...
Read moreDon't think that if you have been to one Black Press Coffee, that you've been to all of them. While the two that I have been to each have their own charm and personality- as well as devoted followers- this is still my favorite. Open spaces, a community space for the building, downstairs, where you can gather for longer... walk on the treadmill or play some ping pong or just chill. I am someone who likes drinks that don't taste like coffee but have caffeine. The barista fixed me up perfectly, guiding me toward good options that I then combined into an iced mocha latte that was truly perfect. It had a nice dark- chocolate edge to it that I loved. The girls enjoyed sitting in the all glass storefront, people watching, while waiting for hot chocolate. There are little book nooks where you can sit and enjoy...
