Gordo's Cafe — Restaurant in Gallup

In a former life I was a restaurant reviewer in a upscale, high priced area. Who did I review? The little guys; the diners and dives that just served excellent food. Gordo's would definitely been on my radar. My wife wanted a Navajo Taco. We were dragging a trailer between Holbrook (AZ) and Prescott. Gordo's appeared on Google. We went for it. But we have dogs and the outside temperatures are in the low 90's. Got to take it to go.. Step in the door and you are surrounded by smiling waitstaff. Order to go, have a seat at the counter. Want some water while you wait? The joint is jumping. Families in, families out. The staff is running. What a tight ship! Okay, here comes the food. Down the highway to a rest stop with some shade. Dig in! OMG heaven. The fry bread was fresh and fluffy. The burger seasoned and cooked perfectly. Fortunately we had the salsas on the side. The red was tasty with a mild afterburn; the green was incendiary - too hot too handle ( we had been warned). This is local dive obviously catering to the local crowd. But, if you want excellent food served with a beautiful smile put Gordo's...

First and last time eating here on 8/14. Was excited but made the mistake dining 30 minutes before closing. Experienced nothing but mean looks from staff from beginning to end..tried to hold a conversation while they slammed chairs on and off tables and splashed smelly mop water on our ankles. As if it couldn’t get worst, my Mother chipped her tooth on a dime size rock which she broke in half from the force of her bite. When we informed the waitress, she nonchalantly confirmed it was indeed a rock from their beans which she admitted they only clean 3 times until “water is clear”. Must happen a lot. Wow. All I can say to the owner and staff..do better, have some integrity or get out of the food business. Thank you for a horrible and traumatic experience. Good luck to those whose choose to dine here. Jerry’s Cafe down the road has NEVER in my 27 years disappointed, let alone had rocks in their food. (Take Notes Gordo’s) They Are Always welcoming too, NO...

Being a lonely wanderer, for sure I have had my share of very delish meals in small town America, large cities, and other countries . My Huevos Rancheros plate defied all expectations. Clearly… This was indeed absolutely the best breakfast experience I have ever had! {And at an incredibly low tab!} 💛

“Mr. Benny the 4th” served me my warm & flavorful plates with a genuine smile, and other waitresses checked on my table regularly. From the hungry walk-in, to the satisfied walk-out, every moment is pure sunny enjoyment. ☀️

You know… Great customer service is becoming increasingly rare in these Post-Covidmess times. Sad and unfortunate, sure. Yet here at Gordo’s you will find the peeps so friendly, so inviting, and the vibes as cool as the Gallup NM fresh air!
