44 Club — Restaurant in Garden City

Extremely disappointed in this place that used to be my favorite and seems to have gotten too big for it's britches. I've been going to this bar regularly for more than 25 years, but may be looking for a new place now. Breakdown of bad experience: 2 women went into the only women's bathroom, and were in there for more than 20 minutes. Meanwhile, my son's girlfriend is waiting to use the bathroom...after 20 minutes, she's getting desperate so my son takes her into the men's bathroom so she won't pee her pants. Two minutes later when they come out, the bouncer kicks them both out of the bar for being "inappropriate." When they try to explain the situation, they're brushed off with "it's policy." Where is this policy posted that doesn't consider context? Glad the place is doing so well that they can afford to lose good-paying, good-tipping, long-time customers who weren't bothering anyone or causing any trouble over what can only be described as a bouncer's power trip. If it's "policy" that only one person is in the bathroom at once, why weren't the 2 women who spent 30 minutes in the women's bathroom asked to leave? Seems to be a pretty discriminatory and sexist "policy" to me. Maybe it was because my son and his girlfriend aren't white? Needless to say, I'll be looking for another place to...

Great local feel. Decent sound system for karaoke every day. Drinks are strong and beer is cold. If you're looking for a great place to philosophize with fellow watering hole gatherers, this is the place to gravitate towards!

It's cash-only. They have an ATM within that charges three bucks for withdraws. There is a smoking area outside, around the back of the building, under an overhang. Parking is sparce and often in gravel (which will pool with water after a good rain). You can physically park in the paved area next door, but that area is owned by a restaurant. There is also parking opportunities to be found at the gentleman's lounge next door on rare occasions.

I met a lovely, music-loving crowd when I went in on a Wednesday night. It got busy around midnight. Based on word-of-mouth, the club can be extremely busy on the weekends, where it can be difficult to get a turn at singing unless you put in your songs early (before 8pm). Mondays and Tuesdays seem to appeal more to the regular singers for that reason.

All in all, I had a wonderful time and I look forward to patronizing them again this weekend! I plan to update this review then with pictures and...

Place looks very divey on the outside. Looked like it might be a rough crowd. We weren't sure if this was going be a quick dip in dip out. We were pleasantly surprised when we got in. Everyone was super friendly and karaoke had just started. We arrived for karaoke on time but there were already ten people on the que so you might want to show up a bit early if you are going there for that. The DJ was friendly and very organized. He even remembered my wife's name with ten people ahead of her when she went to talk to him. He also offers to put you to the front of line for a $20 tip. Otherwise we had a great time.
