I have been creeping on this joint for a few days now. I have looked over the menu a few times and some of the food have really stuck out to me. The area I live in is quite boring when it comes to restaurants so now that I have a Burmese/ sushi restaurant down the road from me, of course I have to try it out.
I decided to order something to go instead of eating at the venue. They close at 8 and it was already 7:15. I had called earlier and asked some questions about their fresh rolls. A lot of local Vietnamese joints in town nickle and dime you on the fresh rolls. They are prepared so small and charge you a great amount. It's honestly embarrassing that they have the nerve to make such a tiny fresh roll and price them outrageously. I was hoping for these rolls not to be like that. The gentleman over the phone answered my questions and told him I'll call back.
I decided on bbq beef spring rolls and some veggie tempura. Unfortunately, BBQ pork, BBQ beef and the tofu options were not available in the fresh rolls. It didn't leave me many choices left so I opted for the crab salad and shrimp fresh rolls.
Walking in to grab my order, this venue is quite big! There were quite a few guests enjoying their food. It's nice to see a new business have their tables occupied. Nothing better than supporting a local business. I know this venue used to be a Mexican joint before they took over. They did a good job making it their own. Walked up to the big counter, got my order paid for and just hung out till it was finished.
I was handed two bags. The one containing the temperature was hot! You can tell veggies were hot out of the fryer. The other bag was my fresh rolls.
Coming home, I opened up the tempura first. It smelled so good! You can still feel the heat and steam coming off the veggies. At first glance, the box of tempura did look quite overwhelming. The tempura wasn't the most organized. It was all kinda thrown in there. Everything was fried nicely. The batter had great seasoning to it. It was also light and airy. You got huge clusters of onion and sweet potatoes. I did get a few pieces of zucchini. The one tempura that threw me off was the cilantro. I have never had fried cilantro before. It was different but good. I didn't get the tamarind dipping sauce that went with the tempura which was a bummer. I'm sure the sweet and tangy sauce would have been a great pairing with the savory tempura. I would also suggest eating the tempura there. The condensation did cause the tempura to lose it's crispness.
The fresh rolls were the biggest I have had in town! These bad boys were loaded with romaine, cucumber, pickled carrots, shrimp and crab salad. They were hearty! I appreciate that they filled the rolls with such great ingredients and not fill it with rice noodles as a filler. There was substance to these rolls and they were so good! I do wish they were rolled a little tighter. They fell apart after one bite. It also came with a sweet chili sauce. I used soy sauce instead of the sweet chili. The sweet chili actually was tastier with the tempura. Next time I'll make my peanut sauce when I order these rolls. It's going to be so good!
I did see that they offer pho and a curry noodles on their menu. They have quite a variety of sushi. I'll probably try something basic like Cali or a fried shrimp roll if i try the sushi. That curry noodle has my eye though. I'm so excited that this joint is in our area. My first experience was great and I'm looking forward to checking out the rest...
Read moreThe food was delicious and fresh. I absolutely loved the volcanic sushi dish!!! Wow absolutely delicious! I feel the service was ok, quick and simple . The waiter seemed confused and not so confident in his words when greeting or answering questions from the customers. There is always room for improvement. I asked his favorite dish and that is what he advised me to have. I was delightful! I walked in and the wet floor sign was in view so that the customers can see that the floor was wet and we should to use caution. So safety precautions were great! It was just a few customers so it was very nice to have some quiet space to sit and eat while I had my car looked at...
Read moreNanzaya is our new favorite sushi place in Boise! We first dined here after a trip to Japan, and we were amazed at the quality of the sushi and the value. The chef is creative while still showing respect for the ingredients. Oh, and the Sake from Kyoto made us miss Japan in the best kind of way. We’ve been back 5 times so far and each visit was as good as the first. We’ve tried most of the sushi options in the valley, and Nanzaya’s is a notch above the rest. If atmosphere is more important to you than high quality food, you can find restaurants with more ambiance. If you’re a foodie, you know not to judge a strip mall restaurant by...
