This was the second visit with a co-worker. The first was right after they opened and was not great. Decided to give them time to work out the kinks. Went today for lunch and it appears they have added more kinks.
We sat at the bar, there were 3 other groups of 2 sitting there plus 3 tables in use. The bartender was responsible for the tables, drinks for the dining room and of course the bar.
Busser immediately arrived with chips and salsa and bartender found his way back to the bar and took our drink order. Got our drinks and took about 10 more minutes before he was back to take our order after delivering our drinks even though we indicated we were ready to order.
I ordered plain beef nachos (beef and cheese) for $14, co-worker ordered nachos supreme for $15.99, requested minus chicken (wanted beef only), server acknowledged no chicken. Our food arrives, my nacho had enough chips to fill up a dessert plate with a small amount of queso that was extremely watered down (I assume with milk). My co-workers nacho was chicken only (supposed to be beef only) and looked like a nice size serving until you realized there was very little chicken and chips, it was all lettuce. He asked for more chips so that he could finish his plate. Food was mediocre at best.
For drinks my co-worker had 2 bottles of Modelo beer ($4.75 ea) and I had 2 Captain Morgan and diet Coke drinks ($8 each). Service continued to be almost non existent. Food was delivered by busser, server never came to check that our meal was okay (it wasn't) and getting a second drink required darn near calling the restaurant.
Getting our bill was also a challenge. Once we had it, we were surprised that they charged us 75 cents for the chips that should have been on my co-workers nacho to begin with and $1 for the Pepsi for my mixed drink.
Just not worth the price, aggravation, wait, lack of decent food, etc., etc. We did tip 20% because we are not jerks but we will not give them...
Read moreTLDR: A decent Mexican restaurant with an extensive menu (including a large seafood selection - says the pescatarian-😉) and cocktails.
The atmosphere of the place was very welcoming, decorated nicely and the staff was very hospitable.
We ordered a round of drinks: the Fresh Organic Skinny Margarita (Made up with 1800 silver tequila, orange liquor, fresh lime, orange juice, and our organic margarita mix), the Pertect Mojito (Barcardi, lime juice, mint and brown sugar), the Pina Colada Malibu (Made with coco cream, triple sec, malibu, pineapple, juice and whipped cream) and the Tropical Island (Tito‘s vodka, orange juice, grapefruit juice, with a touch of grenadine) - all were good, delicious, and classic tasting.
For our meals, we ordered:
Chimichanga de la Casa: grilled steak, chicken and shrimp cooked with bell peppers, onions rolled up in flour tortilla and deep fried topped with cheese dip. served with mexican rice, beans, lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream and guacamole - it was good, as expected).
Enchiladas de Jaiba: three cheese enchiladas topped with crab meat, shrimp, bell peppers and onions. topped with cheese dip and green sauce. served with rice, and a guacamole salad - I remember this being a lot of food- I ended up taking half of it home, but it was delicious.
Carnitas: pork cooked golden brown served with tortillas. Mexican rice, refried beans, guacamole salad. - Reported to be good, as expected.
BURRITO JALISCO" it's huge: a burrito filled with grilled onions, steak, chicken, camitas, rice, beans, lettuce, sour cream and cheese. topped with cheese sauce - also reported to be tasty.
One thing I will say is that the portions are decently large- only one person finished their meal out of the group.
Overall, this is a place I’d visit again if I lived in the area, so I do...
Read moreAfter driving from out of town last night,an hour drive to see a sick friend at the hospital… was happy to find a restaurant open till 10 in Traverse City besides drive-through garbage… Got there about 940 all by myself , After checking the websites and their sign said open. There were a lot of employees still there, but they were taken back by the presence of someone that close to closing time, Immediately bickering to each other in Spanish. I replied that I eat fast. I guess it’s not like there were 20 people!!. I was just happy to sit down and maybe order a quick taco. or a drink.I’m sure it wouldn’t take long and I didn’t intend to stay long, but I drove from out of town. Basically he went back and dickered for 10 minutes in the kitchen Telling me he would be right back… Eventually came out with a woman , Who had a menu in her hand, pretending like she was going to seat me(There were at least five people involved in this by now I could have already had a drink served and finished!), and I heard her mutter that ‘we’re getting ready to close’, they just clearly did not want a customer. I just said never mind and walked out.So I will never go back and I do not recommend that kind of place with that kind of bullshit for ‘service’. Myself and my kids all work in the service industry and if we have to close five or 10 minutes late big deal.! One person… How hard can that be to see? I could’ve been done with my meal by the time they were debating how to get rid of me. Traverse City just doesn’t have it going on anywhere and this place really sucks for service. And they missed out on a good customer because I’m...
