I don’t want to be dramatic, but Taqueria Las Lagunas may have single-handedly saved my will to live. This place is so good I’m suspicious they struck some kind of deal with the guacamole gods. I walked in expecting a taco and walked out spiritually reborn.

First of all, the food? Outrageously good. The tacos practically hugged my mouth. I ordered the chicken nachos and I swear I saw a beam of light shoot down from the heavens. I’ve had dreams less satisfying than that plate of goodness. The green salsa? Straight out of a New Mexican fever dream. Not too spicy, not too mild—just enough kick to make me question my life choices in the best way.

The vibes? Immaculate. Clean, welcoming and simple. It’s about the food not the decor. The staff is also absurdly friendly. I don’t know what I did to deserve that much kindness just for showing up and ordering.

I’ve already told my friends, my family, my coworker’s dog—basically anyone with ears—that this is my new favorite place in Traverse City. If you need me, I’ll be at Las Lagunas, blissfully weeping into a taco.

Bright cheery interior with a large television playing music videos. Drinks are by the can or bottle. Water is available self-serve against the wall.

You place your own order at the counter and cash out when ordering. They bring your food to you.

Chips were hearty. Loved the salsa; just a tiny bit of heat but well-balanced. Not as ‘tart’ as some verde salsas I’ve had.

The fish taco was my favorite. Flavorful and moist. The chicken taco had good flavor but was a little dry. I could have added a bit of the salsa and it would have been fine, but I wanted to experience it as presented. The ground beef was your standard taco. I felt all could have used a bit of salt. I’m not one to salt food by nature but felt the flavor could have been woken up a bit with a hit.

Husband enjoyed his burrito. It was more of a mole than an enchilada-style sauce. Very sizable portion. I tried a bit of the guac on his plate and can’t wait to come back to try it with chips.

Perhaps the best Mexican ive had in Michigan. We are in town for our annual vacation in OMP. We are from tje Detroit area. No shortage of good Mexican down state. This blows them all away. Impeccably presented amd crafted food. Very generous portions as well. The chips are perfection 👌. All the salsas are great and expertly seasoned. Best fish tacos EVER. Steak, tripe, ground beef, chicken 🐔 all killer options for our tacos and entrees choices. We came in for a test run. Hit the beach ⛱️ in TC for a few hours and came back to collect our feast for the night. Value driven and excellent food. Continued success to this awesome family....
