Carolina Fish Fry Co. — Restaurant in Garner

This was third and FINAL time coming here. My first time was last summer and all I ordered was shrimp and hushpuppies. Not stellar but not terrible. Second time was drive-thru: combination fried platter with fish, scallops with an extra side of popcorn shrimp. Sides were green beans, fried okra and additional side of coleslaw. After opening the container the smell coming from the fish was not only strong which happens when you freeze seafood, but when I bit into the fish filet, the oil used for frying had turned rancid. Sadly, they fried the other sides like the okra and hushpuppies in the same oil as the seafood! No one wants okra and bread that tastes like fish and rancid oil!!! I was so sick for about a day or so with a touch of food poisoning, I said never again... But my final time was a few weeks ago, it was late and I had just gotten off work and was not going to cook. So out of COMPLETE desperation I turned into the drivethru line. I ordered the combination of oysters and jumbo shrimp with macncheese and green beans sides and coleslaw. When I bit into the oyster, it squirted this mud like goo into my mouth, which when an oysters is over cooked and not cleaned properly when harvested, makes it taste like the strong smell of low tide. I literally threw up. The clam strips breading was hard and crunchy on the outside, but inside the breading was mushy. Not to mention the clam itself was super chewy and gummy. More so than most. I didn't even give the rest of the food a chance and I was so grossed out that ALL of it was thrown away. I wished I would've had a better experience as it does have a neat beachy theme inside. If nothing else it could've been a "mini vacation" for the hour that someone dines...

I googled restaurants near me and this fish fry came up in my search and decided to try it from the reviews and photos. It was my first time trying this place out and I was highly satisfied. The young woman that took my order was friendly and helpful. I ordered the the choose 2 and got the fried catfish and fried jumbo shrimp with the 3 sides. I substituted the fries for the mashed potatoes and gravy for an up charge which was fine and not a huge cost. Everything was delicious as you can see from my photo that I ate it all. I was full but it was so good that I couldn’t stop and that’s the only issue I had which isn’t really any issue. There was so much that I could have had a 2nd meal from it. I wish I took a picture prior to eating it but I was so hungry and dove right it. I love seafood and grew up near an ocean so I always had fresh seafood. I’m really happy to have this place near by and I will definitely be back to keep trying different things. It’s not a huge menu which is good so they focus on quality then quantity. I would suggest this place to everyone.

I just came back again tonight 12/3/21 & took a photo of the food before I ate it all like the last time. I also saved some so I can have it again tomorrow. I chose the pick 2 again and ordered the fried catfish & fried Jumbo shrimp with the 3 sides it comes with (fries, coleslaw, hush puppies) the fries are a little too soft for my likings, the hush puppies are okay and the coleslaw is the way I like it and how Chick-fil-A made it but it’s not as creamy. I would recommend you going to try at least once. They have a variety of seafood and you can have some items fried or grilled. I’ll be back again to hopefully try...

Arrived saturday night with my husband and 2 of the boys to try out the new place. When we arrived there was a few people in line and many customers already eating but still plenty of tables and even a few booths open still. We got the fried flounder and shrimp platters this also comes with fries,coleslaw and hushpuppies. The kids got the fried shrimp kids meals. You can see the man in the kitchen breading and frying the food to order which I think is great since this ensures your food hasn't been sitting under heat lamps for along time. You do have to purchase drinks separately from the cost of your food but to be honest didnt think that was a problem since lots of places do this. We got our number and grabbed a booth. Our wait was maybe 15mins for our food. The young lady that took our order also brought out our food and asked if we would like sauce and then got that for us too.

The food arrived super hot. I've seen on other reviews where people complained that they thought it was to expensive for the amount. I however do not agree with that. My platter consisted of 3 fillets of flounder ,a good amount of shrimp, a scoop of yummy coleslaw 3 hushpuppies and fries. I personally couldn't finish it all. I found the food to be delicious. My 5 year old gave it 2 thumbs up and even my husband said he wanted to go back again.

Only negative is the parking lot is tight. So next time we will just take my small car and not...
