Rudy's Italian Restaurant — Restaurant in Garwood

The food at Rudy's is good. But it was not worth my time waiting and the way I was treated, since I did not want to tip 20%. I have been treated better at fast food joints. There are many great restaurants in this area. I will never set foot back in this place again. Definitely, my worst experience dining out as long as I can remember. Do you want to know why? Please, just read on!

I am a local and after hearing so many good things about Rudy's we (a family of 3) decided to give it a try. We arrived around 7:00 PM. There were many parties waiting. I approached the staff and was told that the waiting time was 35 minutes. We decided to stay. They took my name and cell number. My son decided to stay in the waiting area and my wife and I just went to King's and got back in 20 minutes. We had to wait another 15-20 minutes. All this time no one paying any attention to us, no one other than us in the waiting area at that point. Then, a party of 4 arrived and they were offered to be seated immediately. It was so obvious we were waiting to dine in that those guys notified the waiting staff that we were ahead of them. Still they were seated and we were just ignored. So we approached the staff and asked why we were not seated. We were told they thought we were there to pick up. I would say between three or four staff it should not have been that difficult to figure out that a family of three waiting for almost 40 minutes were not just picking up.

Anyways, we were seated. As I said, the food was good and the server was OK. Nothing great. I noticed there were many regulars and all of them being nicely served and treated. So we finished our food, the server wrapped our leftovers and immediately brought the credit card device. He stood right next to me. I confirmed the charges and tipping screen showed up. The first choice was 20%. I thought the minimal service we received did not justify 20%. Let us remind ourselves that 20% is for great service. All this time the server standing right next to me, staring at the screen. This was extremely uncomfortable. I picked custom tip and entered 15%. At that point I felt he got somehow upset. He printed the receipt and TOSSED it on the table, in front of me and walked away. I was just shocked. His RUDE behavior was so obvious that my son and the gentleman sitting next to us just noticed it. I was really agitated. I got up, approached the server and asked him if it was polite to toss the receipt in front of me. He said he did not mean it, he was sorry and walked away again! At that point I was raging so much I could punch someone in the face. I could approach the manager, if there was one present, but I was so upset I thought I was going to get into an argument, so decided to walk away and write the longest review of my life.

I went to Rudy's for the first time a week ago with a friend and I truly enjoyed the food, the service was excellent so I decided to take my family out to dinner today. It was quite fast to get a table, unfortunately the only table available was all the way in the corner. I asked if we could be seated somewhere else but I was cordially told that the tables available were for a party of two or were already reserved. Anyway, I did not mind and went as directed. The service was good but not as nice and friendly as the last time but the food was outstanding and delicious, my family really liked it. However, the waitress only came once to re-fill out cups but never even asked how was everything or if we needed anything else. After we were done, we wanted to have desserts but there was nobody around which was frustrating because there were only a few tables occupied at that point. We waited more than 15min so my husband decided to go to the front to see if someone could come, the hostess was able to send the waitress to our table but at this point we were ready to take our leftovers home, get our check and leave. The waitress brought our check followed by the credit card machine but she felt the need to point out to us the tip amount that we should leave which was totally out of touch after the service we had received. She noticed that my husband did not select the tip option when the payment went thru so she quickly proceeded to ask if we were going to leave the tip in cash, it was quite odd and uncomfortable to certain extent because that never happened to us anywhere else. I mentioned the situation to the hostess while we were leaving, she was nice and apologetic but that really did not change the bad experience we just had with the waitress. If it were up to my kiddo, he would rate it 10 stars! But since we only have five here to review with, we will! I'd heard quite a bit of great reviews from patrons as well as friends who come here, and I've been going past for years. This afternoon after church I was finally able to stop in. While we ended up getting pizza and drinks (the kid knows what he wants!), I looked at the extensive menu and saw quite a bit of delicious items to choose from. What we ordered was delicious, and I'm certain the other menu options are as well. But even better than the wide variety of Italian based dishes (that pair well with the Italian wines offered!!), was the friendly and accommodating service. Everyone we encountered was kind, knowledgable, and more than willing to help this mama out with whatever we needed. My son especially adored our great server! She was considerate and always had a smile for us. Between the service, the food, and the staff...you can't go wrong ordering from here. Whether for a quick bite or a nice sit down meal (they even offer take-out!) you and your family will enjoy the food and atmosphere to boot.
