We were staying at the Hotel Esquire on a Saturday night and as I walking on Main St. to pick up take out, I noticed people coming out of what I thought was an office building with ice cream. The sign on the door said Downstairs Ice Cream so I checked it out. Man, what a hidden gem. You are over-whelmed (in a great way) by the waffle smell as soon as you open the door. It's a cute place in the basement of the building. The owner was as nice as can be and offered other flavors of ice cream that were not listed. $5 for one scoop and $7 for a double is a pretty good price for what I call gourmet ice cream. Read moreOk, this was the sweetest accidental discovery. After leaving a restaurant a few doors down I saw the sign for this shop. My fiances dessert she ordered at the restaurant was never served and I pointed this place out, so we peeked in.
Many delicious flavors, and you can sample each to find what you like. The Cinnabon ice cream was heavenly and I had the milk and honey with a scoop of March snackness (pb ice-cream with chocolate covered pretzels and caramel swirls). All of the ice cream is light and creamy. Not quite hard but not quite soft serve either. We liked it so much we aren't opposed to driving the 1.5 hrs every so often just to get more.
