Fantastic ice cream right on Main Street Gastonia. Lots of great flavors that are all worth trying. Rotational flavors every month and by availability of locally sourced ingredients. The milk comes from a local dairy as well and you can really taste it in the quality of the ice cream compared to the other chain places around. The owner is super nice, welcoming, and will answer any questions you have. Definitely a new regular ice cream place for me.

I was so excited when I found this place on Google! We arrived about 10 minutes before closing, and the shop was still packed — always a good sign. We’re an ice cream family, and we’re so glad Megan and her husband brought this adorable little homemade (yes, homemade!) shop to Gastonia. This town truly deserves a gem like Downstairs. Hands down, the best-tasting ice cream in the area. It’s officially our new favorite spot!

Could be great ice cream. But lousy at updating hours to reflect temporary closures. I drove 30 minutes out of my way to come here only to find a door sign saying they were and had been closed for days. Neither the Google business page or their website reflected this.

We were staying at the Hotel Esquire on a Saturday night and as I walking on Main St. to pick up take out, I noticed people coming out of what I thought was an office building with ice cream. The sign on the door said Downstairs Ice Cream so I checked it out. Man, what a hidden gem. You are over-whelmed (in a great way) by the waffle smell as soon as you open the door. It's a cute place in the basement of the building. The owner was as nice as can be and offered other flavors of ice cream that were not listed. $5 for one scoop and $7 for a double is a pretty good price for what I call gourmet ice cream. I got a cup each for my wife and I and it was delicious. The owner says they make the ice cream on location, and it shows. Great place. Highly...

Ok, this was the sweetest accidental discovery. After leaving a restaurant a few doors down I saw the sign for this shop. My fiances dessert she ordered at the restaurant was never served and I pointed this place out, so we peeked in.

Many delicious flavors, and you can sample each to find what you like. The Cinnabon ice cream was heavenly and I had the milk and honey with a scoop of March snackness (pb ice-cream with chocolate covered pretzels and caramel swirls). All of the ice cream is light and creamy. Not quite hard but not quite soft serve either. We liked it so much we aren't opposed to driving the 1.5 hrs every so often just to get more.

So stop in and enjoy. They make all of their own icecream and...

Great new hidden gem on Main Street Gastonia. Walking by the door after dinner we were pulled in by the smell of fresh baked waffle cones coming out of the oven. Lots of great unique flavors of ice cream made from local sourced ingredients. The owners are super nice. We really enjoyed our time here and the ice cream is delicious. The basement level shop is a super cool dive and a great addition to the growth of Main Street. Can’t wait for...
