Whiskey Mill has an interesting vibe. It sort of feels like it could be a biker bar but the two times I have been there, no bikes. One time I drove by there were several bikes parked there.
I took my son for an early dinner. He had the Whiskey Burger with cheese and a side of fries. When writing reviews, I try to get a taste of my entire dining party’s dish but not this time. I just sampled some fries which were very good. Order a side of mayo or malt vinegar and they’re excellent.
The Red-Neck Rueben caught my eye. The menu says it’s a seasoned burger with cheese, sauerkraut, homemade chili and their Whiskey Sauce. I couldn’t taste the the Whiskey Sauce or the flavor or the sauerkraut. The chili was meh. I make much better but I question why it is here at all since it covers up the flavor of the kraut and sauce. I would not order it again.
I asked the barkeep for his cocktail menu. He brought it over, sort of apologizing. I would have to disagree here. There were some very interesting cocktails on the menu; Liquor combinations I have not seen any other higher end establishments so no need to apologize for your cocktail menu.
It’s a small establishment, but the beers they have on tap were pretty good and varied. I sort of expected there to be the usual domestic clap trap of beers but no, they had some craft beers so they get...
Read moreWow,
I am so excited about this place. The Man and I went on a Sunday at lunch.. wanting something different. Whiskey Mill gives off a fun bar atmosphere with a much better than average bar food. The décor is interesting, and I just couldn’t stop taking it all in. There were beer and alcohol signs on the ceiling, ok.. but the black & white artwork on the walls really draws the eye. It is reminiscent of times gone by with the mills & hard physical labor that made Gaston County what it is today.
The food was just about perfect. It took a minute to get but the single server that we saw was all over every occupied table. Many people came in, sitting at the bar. Lots of bar space for eating & socializing and just having a good time. We started with the Southwestern eggrolls.. OMG singularly almost the best I have ever had. Sooo good…The ranch didn’t taste out of a bottle but homemade.
I got the Black Jack Burger and … wow yet again…The sauce has the tang of Jack D but not the alcohol overlay. I wasn’t asked how I wanted my burger which is fine. Mostly of the red meat lately has been well anyway… But the flavor was great and not burnt. The drippy sauce just gave it that extra something else. The Man got the Philly Cheese, and it wasn’t too bad.
All in All, it was a great experience with...
Read moreMy husband and I were driving to another restaurant, but this place caught my attention. We decided to go here and boyyyyyyy are we glad we did. As an appetizers we had the "hot" wings. Maybe because we are Hispanic, we didn't think they were hot. However, they were delicious and the jalapeños on top... ahhhhh, so good. We asked for recommendations (1st time here) and discussed to each try the "Red Neck Reben." My husband ate that up like it's air. Lol. I also enjoyed it, it was too large for me to finish it (took it home) I added the jalapeño from the chicken wings and 12 out of 10. Lastly, when heading out, we were invited back (normal). We shared what burgers we were planning on trying next time we came back... and they brought us a sample!! A sample of the burgers we want to try NEVER did I imagine that would happen. I thought the gentleman who gave us the recommendation would just come out to say goodbye.
Not only was the service amazing, but you can tell the locals eat here. The staff and clients know each other's by name. That's amazing.
Lastly, the waitress was very nice and very attentive and also gave us recommendations. She was very patient with us as we decided what to try.
