Mary's Fabulous Chicken & Fish — Restaurant in Genoa Charter Township

Update: Updating our review from 5 stars to 3 stars. For the past year or so when trying to get food it’d never a simple call in order, get food, go home. Often the phone isn’t answered at all or there’s a 90 minute wait. When going in to pick up the quoted time is never accurate and I still end up waiting 20 minutes after I got there when they told me to. The now younger staff ignores you and doesn’t acknowledge you while you’re standing there. Tonight when they said my food was ready they realized they gave our fish dinner to someone else by mistake. No real apology and I need to wait again. The food isn’t as good as before as well. The fish is now hard and dry, I imagine it’s over fried. The fries with a dinner are an after thought, just a spare handful thrown on top of your fish. We don’t visit with the same frequency now due to the above, and since every visit we do take is not simple, I’m changing the stars.

Original: We had heard great things about this place over the years but never got around to actually going there. Well recently we checked it out and it was outstanding! The fried chicken and the fried cod is the best I've ever had in my entire life. The chicken had the perfect seasoning and was juicy and had a plentiful amount of meat. The cod had this delicious golden buttery crispiness. They actually don't drop the fish into the fryer until you arrive to ensure your fish does not get soggy in case you get delayed on the way in. We loved it so much that 3 days later we went back for more. We definitely plan on sharing it with family in the area and agreed it should be the catered food for our next party. Years ago a friend turned me on to Mary's Chicken in Howell, Mich. just a small white building on a busy corner, I actually passed it up like I have done so many times. I pulled into next parking lot and walked to Mary's, I wasn't leaving Howell this time without some Chicken! Not Again! As I said I haven't been in this establishment in some year's. I was dumbfounded when I saw how clean the place was! I actually could see through the windows! To me that's a 5 Star plus right off the bat! I was greeted immediately and placed and paid for my order by a very well groomed man not to mention handsome to boot! I decided to walk and get my car from next door parking lot while waiting for my order. Forgot to mention how Cold it was outside maybe 10 Degree's!! Pulled into Mary's and to my surprise again the Handsome Well-groomed Man! Gave me curb service!! I was PleasanSurprised Again! until l took my first bite of chicken!! It was the best chicken I have ever had in my life!! No Kidding! I am 60 yrs old and have eatin alot of chicken!! I will not be passing up this Establishment again!! And if I do! I will be hoofing it again from the next parking lot with a big smile knowing what awaits at Mary's !! Absolutely the best chicken I have ever had!!Keep up...

HORRIBLE!! When Mary's first re-opened under the new ownership, it was amazing. I don't know what happened. The last five times I've gone there I have been thoroughly disappointed. I kept coming back hoping it was just a fluke, or maybe due to new staff or something. Turns out, it seems like quality is just not a priority anymore.

The last time I ordered a chicken dinner, the chicken was under-cooked to where I could see pink in the breasts. Tonight we decided to give it one more chance and what did we get? Chicken tenders with virtually no breading on them, onion rings you could break your teeth on and there were only 7 of them in the half order to boot! before the last visit, there were about 3 visits prior to that and with each order the chicken was dried out and horrible.

I used to love Mary's..... but last week we did something we NEVER used to do and we ordered from KFC.

I am thoroughly disappointed in the quality here. Until something changes, DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!

I wouldn't normally be so harsh, but after 5-6 visits ending in disappointment, I feel this is fair. I allowed time for the problem to be fixed.
