I’ve been coming here for 20+ years but I haven’t been in the last five years.
I was craving tacos something simple late afternoon meal.
Service was interesting where the hostess ask me how many and I said I’m just gonna sit at the bar. She then became our bartender and waitress even though there was a person behind the bar talking to someone. I said hello to her and she acknowledged me but never served us.
The hostess that took our order went back to the hostess stand, when we needed something we had to look around for her. She would see us looking for her and come right away. She did a great job serving us but just odd that the other person behind the bar never addressed us or asked if we needed anything. Maybe it was shift change time because it was late afternoon?
The chips and salsa show up, the salsa was very good, glad to see that hasn’t changed. A smooth tomatoey base. You can taste the garlic and cilantro. But the chips have changed, a little thicker - which I don’t like because they tend to jab and pierce the roof of my mouth. Unfortunately the first batch was stale so I sent them back, next batch was fine.
I ordered two beef hardshell tacos. I was a little disappointed with the chopped cheap lettuce, it was iceberg. The taco itself was delicious, crunchy shell good flavored meat and cheese, perfect. No problems there at all, totally satisfied my craving.
My girlfriend ordered the chicken soup. If you’ve never had chicken soup in a Mexican restaurant try it. It’s the best chicken soup I’ve ever had. I normally would never order things like chicken soup in a restaurant. To me it’s one of those things like meatloaf your mom makes on Sunday you don’t buy that from a restaurant. But I tried it once years ago and loved it, this place still rock ‘n’ roll‘s their chicken soup is phenomenal!
A really good chicken broth base and the chicken meat is not dry good flavor and tender. The cilantro flavors are there as well. Then the touch of fresh avocado just makes it.
Four stars instead of three because they still had great service and the food was still really good despite first batch of stale chips and weird service.
Handicap accessible. Open spaces, easy access in and around the restaurant. Lots of parking out front.
Located in a shopping center with a Movie Tavern so when the movies are going the parking lot can get crowded. Another thing to consider is to come here before or after your movie and have a good Mexican meal verses eating in the theater - just a personal thing I don’t like eating my food in a dark theater where I can’t tell if it’s cooked all the way etc. Ive been served raw chicken wings there but that’s a review for...
Read moreI feel very bitter writing this review because I was a loyal El Jinete customer who returned weekly for what used to be great tasting food, great portions, and great prices. However, within the last 6 months all of those have gone significantly downhill, and ultimately led me to never return here again. My fiance and I would eat here every Friday, I noticed one day their chips tasted very bad and smelled of pungent vegetable oil as if they had been fried in bad or expired cooking oil, I let it go as maybe they were busy instead of cutting corners. The next time, it was busy which is understandable, but after waiting over an hour for our meal to find out our server left, no one even told us, ad being told she never even placed our order. The manager who we've spoken to on several occassions comped a portion of our bill, so we continued to come. Until my last experience, it had been over a month since the 2nd bad experience and I was very excited to get my favorite a la carte shrimp quesadilla with grilled onions and cheese dip on top. That's all I order every time I come (literally the same thing every time!!) we had the same female server we've had a handful of times in the bar area, when she brought the food to our table not only was it cold, but they put mushrooms instead of onions to which she said it was her mistake (fine, forgiveable), but on top of everything else they raised their prices and they've always put at least 8-9 medium/large size shrimp in my quesadilla, I counted 4 measly small shrimp. She asked to get me a new order after how hungry and excited I was for this meal I said please just take this off our bill. This is unacceptable for a repeat customer, and sadly no longer a loyal...
Read moreI seriously don't know how anybody can give this restaurant a rating higher than two stars. The food is way below average. I love brought my family here several times because they're right around the corner from my house. every single time the food was subpar. I ordered two cheese chicken quesadillas for my very young children.... It looked like a massive unrolled burrito, very little cheese and the chicken meat look like canned chicken. When questioning the wait staff about how they prepare food she seemed very offended and was rude to us the rest of the evening. They also attempted to overcharge for a shot of cuervo tequila. ($18 for a 1oz cuervo)
Seriously, if you think this is a good Mexican restaurant to eat you might want to get your taste buds checked. You probably have a very serious medical condition. This food is absolutely awful. I also ordered some chicken wings as an appetizer told them medium extra crispy for an appetizer. The wings came back practically burnt and all they did was drizzle Mexican hot sauce on the wing. I get it... it ain't a hot wing restaurant but it's kind of hard to mess up a hot wing if you really think about it. My taco salad was very bland it was almost like boiled ground beef dumped on top of soiled lettuce. I just can't get over that quesadilla. They said if you want it prepared like Taco Bell you have to ask them and it's also an upcharge LOL. They trying to act like they're an authentic Mexican restaurant but you know what? I didn't see one Mexican family in that restaurant on a Saturday night. It is very Americanized and they can't even...
