I really don’t know what happened to what I once considered to be an acceptable option for a decent Chinese Restaurant in my area; off Austell Road. Since I last ate a meal from Green Lotus, clearly a lot has changed for the worse. Just please take my advice and stay away from Green Lotus and keep searching for a decent Chinese Restaurant, unless you already know of one. While it has been several months or a year perhaps, Green Lotus was my go to place when I wanted Chinese food. Definitely not anymore, even if it were free I’d still have to say, “thanks but no thanks “. Today I spent almost $39.00 for Chicken Fried Rice that was dark brown, mushy, cold with chips of chicken pieces that didn’t look or taste anything like the CFR they used to make; Sweet n Sour Chicken that was not fresh, dried out, cold and tough to digest; Mongolian Beef with; while the flavor was ok, it was the toughest Beef I’ve ever had in MB and was impossible for me to chew, let alone swallow; it was at least warm. What happened to the Cream Cheese in the Crab Rangoon? all I could taste was sweet inside a tough pastry shell. The Wanton noodle in the soup was mushy and the Hot n Sour Soup was awfully salty, too spicy and nothing like the soup I used to love. Against my better judgment, I did attempt to eat the food since I had paid for it and boy, that was a big mistake! I ended up with the worst excruciating pain of indigestion/heartburn I honestly haven’t had in years. I knew something was wrong when I walked in and saw all the tables and chairs stacked and piled up and the man behind the counter wasn’t well groomed; in the least. The man was at least friendly which is an improvement from the previous man who used to be very rude. If I had to choose between the rude man or the terrible food, the rude man would win; hands down. I didn’t ask but with food being drastically different, I assume Green Lotus has new owners or management. I would have come out better even buying a frozen Chinese meal from the grocery store. However; stay clear of this now Green Lotus if you don’t want to feel cheated out of your money and get bad indigestion/heartburn, or worse. I DO NOT recommend this place...
Read moreAfter 12 years of faithful loyalty and comfort, our favorite delivery Chinese food restaurant closed. After a suitable mourning period, the family set out to find a new replacement to fill the strip mall restaurant sized hole in our lives. After a detailed map recon, we chose Green Lotus due to its location and the online reviews.
We walked into a spartan setting, with no art or other diners present (granted, this was the day after thanksgiving and most normal families were probably eating leftovers or whatever. Nevertheless, we were on a quest!). There were no decorations or table settings and we learned they only had styrofoam plates. We ordered off of several paper menus, grabbed our cans of soda from the fridge and waited.
The soup to begin the meal was excellent! Hot and sour (family favorite), egg drop, and wonton were all a present surprise. With serious flavor and nice heat, the soups got everyone excited for the main event.
As the meals came out one by one, the table provided a wide variety of observations and reflections. For starters, all breaded chicken (General Tsao and Sesame chicken) had a great bread to chicken ratio and enough sauce to provide flavor but did not drown the meat. Again, another surprise. However, the Kung Pao (the main family favorite and the biggest source of our critique) was a distant second to our former Chinese culinary specialists’ masterpiece. With only all white chicken, a far less viscous sauce, and not nearly enough spice or flavor, it did not quite replace what was lost.
Overall, we decided that the Green Lotus was a suitable weekend fling, a rebound one night stand that was fun while it lasted but left a bitter taste of the Chinese food that once was. For some in the family, that’s all it will remain. For me and several others, we may continue the relationship to see where it goes. However, as of now, no one is looking to put a ring on it. 3...
Read moreI have been a customer of Green Lotus since 2015. The cashier was never that friendly but I ignored his attitude because the food was good. On Monday June 26, 2023 I ordered my standard dish, Chicken Egg Foo Young. My take-out order consisted of 3 nice size patties, however there was NO chicken in the patties. Since the restaurant is closed on Tuesday, I brought my uneaten portion of the patties back to the restaurant on Wednesday. I assumed the chef mixed up my order and forgot to put the chicken in the patties. The unfriendly clerk refused to hear my complaint and insisted there was chicken present, but it was not chicken. It looked like a chunk of egg. Then the clerk asked for my phone number to confirm that I had actually placed the order. Well he found it and I found this ploy insulting, I would not bring food back to an establishment that I didn't buy from. The clerk then questioned my loyalty, and said his records indicate, I had not been in the restaurant since 2020, so I am "NOT" a loyal customer. I couldn't believe this type of scrutiny over a $13.95 Chicken Egg Foo Young dinner. I ordered take-out religiously during and post pandemic and I know he knows my face. By the way, the dinner was originally $8.95 and now it's $13.95. I am not complaining about the increase in price as I know since the pandemic, all goods and foods have increased. Bottom line, I was humiliated and not offered anything to remedy the situation. I am done with GREEN LOTUS. Poor customer service and BAD attitude. Please pay attention to your order. GREEN LOTUS doesn't deserve to be in...
