I will rate this restaurant in comparison to what I would expect for this area. Otherwise, my rating would be much lower.
It was my first time here with my fiancé. We were going to go to another restaurant in the area, but it was way too busy. On a Saturday evening, this restaurant had only three tables being occupied, but there were a few to go orders.
We only ordered two dishes. The string beans (cooked with chicken in black bean sauce) and black pepper steak. The string beans were not cooked in the typical black bean sauce, but instead came out in a gravy sauce. These strings beans were also on the sweet side so I’m going to guess they’re using French beans. The black pepper steak also came out in a peppery gravy sauce. The flavor of the black pepper steak was fine. The meat was not over cooked, but also not what we were expecting. Everything was also overly salty - means we would need more rice. Instead of coming out with a container of rice, we each got a bowl of rice. By a bowl of rice, I mean a scoop of rice. The bowl was not full, I’d say 3/4.
I also saw another review stating that this place isn’t authentic, but he doesn’t even seem to know what authentic is. If you go to a Chinese restaurant to order sea bass, you will not get a whole fish. That is not how we serve sea bass.
Regarding authenticity, I would say this is definitely not it. However, if you would like to step up your game from your typical Panda Express order then this would be a good start. I did note that the woman who runs the counter (I’m assuming the owner) is Cantonese. So I’m guessing this food is catering to the population and not necessarily how they would cook on their own dishes at home. My fiancé shared that he may be back to try other items...
Read moreDecided to try this quaint Chinese Restaurant today. The food score on the door was a 100%. Having a good food score is a must for me. From 4-6pm they offer an early bird special that provides fried rice and an egg roll with your meal. I ordered the Hunan Chicken and Hot Sour Soup. My spouse ordered the sesame chicken. The Hunan Chicken was fresh hot and some what spicy hot. Lots of fresh vegetables. Rice was plain fried rice and was good for what it was. The Hot and Sour soup was surprisingly delicious. This was very hearty lots flavor and plenty of ingredients that didn’t leave it wanting. The egg roll was good for what it was, I have had better. Lastly I tried the sesame chicken and the sauce they used was just right. The chicken wasn’t as crunchy as I would expect for this type of dish. You can tell that the chicken is freshly cut chicken breast. However, with the batter that they used it should have been fried longer to make it crunchy. Overall this is a good place to visit. I would like to visit it again and try something different to see what else they offer. Also it got really busy so they must be doing something right. Service was a bit slow but very polite. Overall this place rates a “3.5 to 4” stars for this style...
Read moreWe were finally able to give this a try. Our first attempt resulted in finding out they were closed for a month with a sign on the door seeming to be the only indication. I'm still a little annoyed by that, but the strong recommendation of friends brought us back to try again. It is someone smaller than I would have expected with only about 10 tables, although it is tastefully decorated. The service was prompt, accurate, and courteous. My wife and I both had hot and sour soup which was very good - both hot and sour. The pot sticker appetizers were just the way I like them, although some may find the wrap thicker than authentic or than they like. My wife really enjoyed her chicken chow mein. I had the kung po chicken, which came with cashews rather than peanuts. It had fresh green and red peppers and the chicken was cooked completely although not overdone. However it seemed to me to lack flavor, and was very bland despite the two dried chillis in the dish. All portions were generous and the bill before tip was just over $35 for the two of us. In summary, adequate with some bright spots. We'll probably be back, although I doubt I'll try the kung po...
