Unable to give a 4 or 5 rating because the customer service is poor. Also, they do not enforce/ensure social distancing--nor is their staff required to wear masks or be neatly groomed. Three cashiers wore masks. Everyone else--including the 'doorman' was without a mask. Never mind that there was only ONE X denoting the 6ft social distancing mark, which means that customers had to self-manage, but failed to avoid being on top of each other in line. It's not in a dangerous neighborhood. However, there is a lot of loitering and individuals begging, which is an uneasy feeling during a health crisis. That customer safety isn't first is a problem.
The ONLY reason I visited JJ's was proximity and time. The other joints I get my wings fix from were closed/closing or expensive. JJ's was only 1.5 miles. I noticed a picture of seasoned fries on a review and convinced myself it was enough if the fries were good. I did not read any reviews so my expectations were low and based off of aesthetics and location. Was I surprised! For $11, I got 10 whole wings with what is at least a medium-sized fries order in other places. The meal comes with bread, which I declined and what is really just a sample scoop of coleslaw. I'm not big on coleslaw so it didn't matter. The coleslaw is the only thing that didn't taste good. It's very bland.
What was amazing was the hot crispy, seasoned fries and the whole wings--also served hot! If you're a Lawry's fan, or appreciate season salt, you'll love whatever that is JJ's has chained to its counter. A repeat customer admonished me to be generous with the seasoning and I was not disappointed! I even loved the BBQ sauce! For the price, the food was more than on point. No longer will I spend $9 for 5 flats+ legs and small fries at Checkers, $8 for 10 flats + legs at CICi's Pizza or $7 for a 3-piece whole wing and kid scope of cajun rice at Popeyes. I don't do American Deli, KFC or Church's. The only comparable wing joint, though way more expensive, is Hop's Chicken in Midtown. The price is right and the food is tight at JJ's. Just be sure to gear up and have...
Read moreI ordered food for my son's on my way home from an appt which took way longer than expected. Which meant, not only did they beat me home from school, there sadly was no dinner prepared for them. I ordered the shrimp dinner, 2 chicken dinner's,a fish chicken, and shrimp dinner, and a scallop dinner. I waited 40+ minute's due to them handling door dash and orders smaller than mine. Upon finally receiving the order, the order was incorrect, I was only given fish and shrimp in the dinner that was supposed to have chicken, fish, & shrimp. I didn't care after having waited so long. There was chicken in the other dinner's! Besides,I still had an hour+ drive home.😊My son's said the scallop's were great. 🙄It was sadly the rest of the order that they gave me the side 😒eye's about😔 The shrimp was burned, super tough, and dry. The chicken was sadly over cooked and dry as well.😔 I apologized to them and explained that 🧏🏾♀️maybe they were having an off day. 🤷🏾♀️ Honestly, it happens. 🙏🏽I asked them to give it another try, they said they'll pass. I felt horrible because I live a whole hour away in another county. Which meant a swift return was not an option. It used to be a go to for me when before I became vegan. 😍An I wanted my son's to share in the experience of good food since they choose to stay on the meat path of life. 😔It sadly didn't go as expected. 🤔Then again, I'd never ordered from the location in Decatur either. I guess it really goes to show, location really is...
Read moreWhy 3 stars and why high on the service and low on the atmosphere and food. Let me tell you.
Everything tastes like refrigerator. The cake tastes like 2 day old fridge cake. The shrimp and fish taste frozen, the wings taste cheap. The problem with cheap seafood is it absolutely won’t be fresh, but it could at least be measures taken in terms of freezer temperature, packaging, and other things to ensure the freshest TASTING quality.
The Atmosphere-The owners look like crack whipping slave masters lording over their workers. The lovely woman who was serving me was off getting my bag together and he was annoyed she wasn’t there to answer the phone, answering it with an attitude gesturing as if she was slacking off. I’m not sure of the ethnicity and culture of the owners, but i know they hired all black workers and opened a restaurant in a predominantly black neighborhood and the quality of the food and their ownership ethics in this space is questionable. Capitalism does its thing. At least care enough about the community you’re choosing to employ and make money off of to provide a pleasant atmosphere and not Lord over your staff.
The service- The woman grabbing my order was kind, lovely and thorough. Give her a raise and leave her...
