Terrible business etiquette. I put in an order for 2 pounds of seafood salad for Christmas Eve. When I got home with the order I noticed that the container was not full. I decided to weigh the order because I paid 64$ for 2lbs of seafood salad and it visibly looked light. The receipt said 2lbs of seafood salad at 32$ a pound. Actual weight showed less than 1.25 pounds. I called the owner because I believed this was an honest mistake and that maybe one of the containers was accidentally missing from the order. The owner informed me that even though he charges $32 a pound, the actual weight may vary because he actually charges 64$ by quart volume and not by weight. I informed him that in either case I got taken advantage of, the quart wasn't full and I was missing 3/4 of a pound. He told me that this is how it goes, that I need to educate myself on how quart containers work, and that I was the only person that ever weighed his product. I am well versed in NY deli etiquette and typically you pay per pound for what you order. The product is put into a quart container and weighed. Sometimes you get more, sometimes less, but you always pay for what you get. Or there is a set price for a quart container which should be full. This deli confidently charges you for what you don't get, in this case I paid 64$ for 1.22lbs of seafood salad. As the owner said, this is not a mistake and what the customer should expect. The owner said he didn't have time to argue with me and I got refunded for the missing 1lb but the owners attitude shows that this was no mistake and more customers should be aware that they may be getting taken advantage of. Will never order from them again. Bad...
Read moreI was born and raised on the north shore of Long Island, NY where I lived until 2016. When I moved to Savannah, GA, I knew I'd be gaining a lot of great things, experiences, opportunities, etc. but I knew I'd be losing a lot too. Ask any NY transplant and they'll tell you one of the greatest losses is the NY food - especially the delis! When we heard about this "NY deli" (not just NY "style" but real NY deli) I had to try it, of course. I didn't want to get my hopes up because I've tried a few down here that just didn't measure up. But let me tell you, Bill did it. He really hit the nail on the head with this place.
Rocky's is practically a replica of a genuine NY deli, tucked quietly away in a Sandfly shopping plaza. Given my credentials (NY in my blood) I can confidently say that this is truly the closest thing you will find to a real deli south of the Mason-Dixon. From the moment you walk up to the door, you are welcomed with a smile and reminded of all the beautiful parts of home lining the walls (old Shea stadium, a picture of the exit to the Cross Bronx, etc.). The food is hands down some of the best food I've eaten in Savannah, I can't rave about it enough.
Bottom line: If you are from NY, visit Rocky's. If you are from Savannah, try a piece of my hometown. If you're hungry, nothing will beat some of this (REAL) deli food.. especially not on a warm Saturday afternoon with nothing on your schedule but netflix and digesting ahead of you! And if you don't have that innate pull to drive straight to Rocky's after this review, then you're probably not a real New Yorker and you wouldn't...
Read moreFINALLY!!! I finally got to check this one off my list, and it was so worth the two year wait! First off, you are greeted as soon as the little bell rings over the door by someone behind the counter, instantly making you feel at home. The delicious smells fill your nose, while your eyes get to work scanning the coolers and the pastry displays....oh and the salami's hanging from above ain't too shabby neither!! So, then, you look at the handwritten chalk board menu items and instantly say "well, if this foods good, I'm definitely coming back for ....that one...oh, and that one...well damn, maybe that one too!!" So, you place your order. Today, my son (he's 21 and loves a good Sammich), and I ordered both, the Brenda and Eddie (Dj, cue the Billy Joel!) We got lucky and grabbed a table as another happy group left...eyes hitting the boards once more as they past the counter of temptation. If you've read this far, here is the best part! As we unwrapped our Brenda and Eddie...our eyes went wide, our noses went "WOOOOHOOOOO" and then, our mouths...the luckiest part of the face today for sure. Our mouths would have said (if they weren't so busy chewing). THANK YOU! or HOLY CRAP, THIS IS WICKED GOOD. So, do your eyes, nose, and mouth a huge favor...get to Rocky's and grab some eats.
Side note....as a lifelong Red Sox fan....the newspaper clipping of the '86 series hurt just a little bit, but the food made up for...
