Our recent visit to Ruth's Chris Steakhouse was a tremendous disappointment. We were meeting friends to celebrate two birthdays and a wedding anniversary. This review is just one of the multiple visits where this restaurant has missed the mark.
Let's chat about drinks ...
On arrival, there was plenty of seating in the bar/lounge area. We selected seats at the bar to meet our friends. We ordered slightly dirty martinis (using Kettle One) with blue cheese-stuffed olives; they arrived quickly and were as ordered. As the evening moved forward lots of guests arrived including our friends. It was a Friday night, and as expected both the bar and restaurant were busy, yet the bar staff had only two bartenders serving both areas. The two quickly became overwhelmed resulting in long waits for cocktails that weren't very well made, and in some cases substituted (they ran out of Kettle One, except for their display bottle which they refused to open after our first martini) and stuffed olives ... they became non-existent. It sounds petty, but there's more.
Let's talk about food ...
We placed orders for appetizers, some came and some never did. Of those that arrived, those containing shrimp were overcooked and had to be sent back ... twice. Those that never arrived were still billed resulting in an end-of-evening dispute with management. It was the third encounter with the manager over the quality of food, drinks, and service; none of the encounters were friendly, respectful of guests, or resulted in a positive outcome for the restaurant or us.
Let's talk about atmosphere ...
Within the first 30 minutes of arrival, the lighting system failed (apparently the problem had existed for over ten days) where the appropriate mood lighting for a dinner crowd suddenly went to full brightness, then back to mood lighting. This continued randomly throughout the evening.
Then the refrigeration unit in the bar wall was found to be too hot because the door didn't seal correctly (an existing issue), and the backup refrigeration unit had never been plugged in. There were so many staffers attempting to address the issue ... the effect was more "keystone cops" than professional restaurateurs.
Then there was the slinging of dishes by the staff into tubs behind the bar ... it was more Waffle House (no disrespect to them) than fine dining.
Finally, the management had taped a laminated sign on the wall, stating all customers must open a tab by providing a credit card. No problem with the policy, it should simply be spoken to guests. The sign was obnoxious and the quality was more "gentleman's club" than fine dining.
We have a few upscale restaurants in Kennesaw, and we try to support them all in hopes of attracting more to the area. Ruth's Chris, which should provide an upscale experience, instead provides an inconsistent experience. It's clearly due to poor management.
Ruth's Chris owners should review their management team at this location and replace them with folks who care about guest experiences. Until then, we can't visit or recommend this...
Read moreUpdate 8/7/23 - One month later, I decided to go back. Megan set up the reservation. So upon my arrival my table had birthday confetti, I had the same waiter from last time (Myles), he came to my table with a complementary glass of Perseco. I ordered ribeye, caesar salad, and onion rings. The salad & onion rings were extremely good. The steak was better than my original visit. Myles was determined to bring a complementary dessert before my departure but I declined. However, he put a piece of cheesecake in a to go box. Thank you Myles & Megan for making my birthday do over dinner a special day! 7/9/23 - All I wanted was a nice steak dinner for my birthday. I ordered a caesar salad, mashed potatoes, ribeye (well done). The salad & potatoes were good however the steak was bland and burnt. I was told it was burnt due to well done request. I've ordered several steaks well done at other establishments and it's never been burnt. I was reluctant to send the steak back as I know that's an insult to the chef and was afraid of my food not being handled properly. My waiter(Miles) was very nice and persuasive and assured me it will be ok. He asked if I would like blackened seasoning on the steak, as it would give it more flavor. I was concerned about that type of seasoning but agreed to it. He also recommended medium rare to avoid the burnt taste. The second steak came out which was a much bigger cut, medium rare was fine and it was more flavorful, however the taste of the blackening seasoning was not to my liking. At this point I just wanted to pay for my salad, potatoes, and adult beverage and leave. He was very apologetic and offered to bring me something else. The manager came by and asked if there was anything more they can do. Which at this point I have been there for an hour and a half. Not to mention I was hungry and just wanted to go home. I'm literally sitting at home eating my potatoes now which is not very fulfilling. As I only had a protein shake today looking forward to my steak dinner. Spent $45 + a tip for a salad, potatoes, and peach tea. Miles did bring out a birthday dessert even after I advised him I did not want it. He was very attentive and had great customer service skills. At the end of the day it was a very disappointing experience for the one birthday dinner I had my heart set on the past...
Read moreFirst time dining. I have heard for years about Ruth's Chris Steak House. Firstly this was a 50th birthday party for 10. I was surprised to discover this location was located inside an Embassy Suites hotel and the entrance was a side door to the property. It was very difficult maneuvering the crowded lot of tourists jockeying for the best position to unload their luggage. Upon entering and finding our way to the host/ hostess stand a very nice young lady greeted us. We said we like to be seated however she said we could not be until 80% of our party arrived. I was a little confused as to why we could not be seated until 80% of our party arrived. We had a reservation so this to me made no sense, luckily 90% of us were present, she then graciously showed us to table set in the main corridor off the kitchen door. I found this unacceptable. When I expressed this she generously showed us to the bar while a suitable area was prepared. While at the bar the service and drinks were good. After a period of time a different woman very angrily told us our table was ready and showed us to a private room. This was a very nice room. Once there our server came in and did a good job of taking care of us. The appetizers were good but the entrees were a train wreck. He and the other servers did not know which meal went to which guest. Steak temperatures were mostly wrong, mine was inedible, and one of my guests didn't get a meal at all. Soooo the prices charged versus food and quality of food in my opinion are vastly at different ends of the scale. To pay upwards of 59.00 per entree and then be asked to slice your steak to see if it is correct....wow. We tried to make light of it for my sisters sake, it was her 50th birthday, so bad. The check came I signed and added a gratuity but then was told by the server he already added. I asked RUTH'S CHRIS to void and bring another but was told they could not do that. That can't possibly be true. I own retail stores and easily have the ability to correct this type of a mistake. All I can say is Ruth must be turning in her grave. This was a mediocre Long Horn Steak experience ertainly not what it is billed to be. Also no interaction with the manager on duty it seemed she dumped it all onto the poor server. I just researched the parent company and discovered it is Darden. Olive garden and Long Horn steaks! Now I...
