GREAT FOOD/BAD WAITRESS - We decided to dine in and our waitress was awful. I would include her name but she never told us her name. The food was good but the waitress was HORRIBLE. The waitress took our order. We asked for Spanish rice instead of the white rice with our orders. There was a long delay to get drinks. The waitress finally brought out the lemonade but failed to bring the sangria. I thought that all beverages should come out at the same time especially if multiple people are sitting at a table. Eventually, I had to ask her how long it would take to receive the sangria because it was a LONG time. The chicken epanadas came out before the sangria!!! It took so long that I was drinking the lemonade with chicken epanadas. The lemonade belonged to my teenager. The chicken epanadas were just shredded chicken wrapped in dough. No peppers. No onions. No potatoes in it. When I finished eating the 2 epanadas, still no sangria. When the sangria finally came, I was disappointed. Online it has the sangria listed as homeade. It was like boxed wine with added fruit. I know homeade sangria and that was NOT it in my opinion. When our food finally came, my plate had 1 thin sliced chicken cutlet, white rice, salad and plantains. The other plate had white rice as well. No spanish rice! I ordered the Pechuga a la Plancha and the chicken was 1 small, thin sliced chicken cutlet which was totally different from the online photo. I asked a gentleman who was cleaning the table in front of us if he could help find our waitress because we ordered spanish rice not white rice. He left and the waitress NEVER came. After we finished eating, we sat waiting for our waitress. Waited. Waited. When she came back, she had the credit card scanner to take payment. It was off-putting because she said nothing and held out the payment scanner in my face. I politely told her that we ordered spanish rice not white rice. This waitress said to me, "whatever the kitchen put on the plate that is what they have". I was shocked. I paid with my card and left. She did not ask us if we wanted any refills, desserts or even cared if we liked the food. This waitress did not know the value in adding add-ons to get customers to spend more on drinks, desserts, etc. On our way leaving, I checked in the front where they served food behind the glass (buffet style) counter. Guess what! There was a large pan of spanish rice for those ordering food to-go. When I got to my vehicle, I checked the receipt again because the cost was on the high side. On the receipt there was a 7% Table Gratuity Charge and at the bottom it also had suggested tip amounts. NO WAY! In my mind, that ridiculous 7% Table Gratuity Charge was that bad waitresses tip. It was only 2 of us sitting at the table. WHY is there a 7% Table Gratuity Charge!!!!! I cannot stress that this was the WORST waitress EVER. Unprofessional and she clearly does not understand the Service business. I felt cheated on my chicken based on the photo online which displayed 2 bone-in chicken breasts. We did not entirely get what we ordered. The waitress did not do her job properly. The sangria was like drinking boxed wine with cut up fruit. Oh! We asked for NO ICE in both the lemonade and sangria and both were packed with ice. Had the waitress checked in to make sure the order was correct, it could have been rectified and switched out. WE WILL NOT RETURN NOR...
Read moreI'm Latina and always looking out for good Latin Caribbean food in Metro Atlanta--which is still slow growing out here. My father discovered this Dominican restaurant some years back when it was managed by a Puertorican--not so sure he's there anymore based on the manner it's managed now. Their style at the time was served buffet-style, a la carte and was very reasonably priced--mind I'm only referring to pricing less than a year ago. Sadly, I never got the chance to experience it before until just this Labor Day weekend. The place was fairly busy when we arrived around 1pm, which is great because then the food stays fresh and hot. When we walked up to start choosing our meal, a seemingly bothered (and long-faced) waitress who started to bring menus to our table, not so friendly immediately told us that we don't order from the hot plates but instead tell her what items we wanted if not ordering from the menu...this is a big change from what they used to do. Where we were seated, you couldn't see what was available so we kept getting up to see what to order. This whole process for our party of 7 took a good bit of time. It was bad enough that we got the grumpy waitress but then for her to begrudgingly and impatiently take our drink and food orders was quite an unnecessary ordeal. Needless to say, perhaps her poor attitude isn't necessarily a reflection on the whole restaurant because there is friendly staff. However, after all was said and done, we were still reeling from sticker shock over each plate and drink! On average, each plate started at least from $15 upward to as much as $28. My understanding is in the past, many of these same plates were less than $10 average. We ordered some familiar Caribbean dishes then a couple of typical Dominican plates. Thankfully, the food tasted very good and everything was served in generous portions and to that, all 7 of us were happy and stuffed and got to take leftovers. So what's my take: food is pretty good across the menu; the downer is high pricing and the fact that you can't order directly at the buffet unless you're ordering for takeout. I guess for the area, they must be doing well, but to frequent their restaurant we probably won't since I can make the same or almost the same foods at home for more than half the cost. This will be a place to come to once in a blue moon and perhaps if we happen to be in the area as we live more than 45min away. Whoever is managing this place now, you need to talk with staff about friendliness and being a good mesera/mesero when serving paying customers. You're food might be good but if you keep cranky staff like what we had, that trumps the overall experience of the food. Nevertheless, if you decide to go anyway,...
Read moreI barely write reviews but I had to in this case. Wanted to give this place a real chance because as a latino married to a Dominican and former New Yorker living in SC its hard to find good Dominican spots, but I ended up very disappointed with the food and service. We just came back from a long day at Stone Mountain, with young kids, and on our way back home to SC, about 2hrs away, we decided to stop by and meet friends that live in GA, who happen to Dominican also, at this spot to have dinner. We get there about 7:30-8 on a Saturday night and didn't get our food till 9:05pm. Let it slide being a big party and all, but rice and beans fries and chicken fingers for the kids shouldn't take that long to bring and should've been brought out first. I ordered Mofongo with melted cheese and a side of chicharrón and asked numerous times if they can bring me a side of meat gravy but it wasn't brought out until half way into my meal. The Mofongo itself lacked flavor and the Chicharrón was low in salt. Then my mother, who was with us, ordered chicharrón de pollo with tostones, pretty simple dish. The chicken ended up being raw on the inside (see pics). The waitress offered her another dish but at this point my mom was repulsed and lost her appetite. We let our waitress know and asked to see the manager. Manager never came even after the waitress assured us she was coming. Asked for the check and they included the raw chicken in the check!! I asked why are they including that and she yanked the check out of my hand and went back to take it off. My mother ended walking over to the counter to speak to the manager because she never came to the table, even after multiple requests. The manager then came to the table to "apologize" to the group giving excuses that she can't control what comes out of the kitchen and throwing my mother under the bus for her bad experience. At this point we just wanted to get out of there especially since my mother was not feeling well after biting into that chicken. Will not come back and being that there are so many other latino options on the same strip of road and in that area we will patronize them instead next time we come to Stone Mountain or visit...
