Went on a Saturday afternoon at around 3PM. Had high hopes after reading others' reviews. There was no one in the restaurant except us. The service and responsiveness of our server was poor. Not sure why especially since we are the only 3 people in the restaurant. We ordered 2 tempura dinners and the 30-piece sashimi sushi combo. The tempura took a little bit of time to get to the table and understandably so. The tempura dinners got to the table and the sushi sashimi didn't. From my view, I could see that the sushi chef had been doing nothing since our arrival. And even after we placed our order, he was doing nothing. So my other companions had to wait for my sushi sashimi. Why? The sushi chef had zero orders other than mine! What was he doing? A long 10 minutes later, my sushi sashimi arrived. It was the most plain looking and undesirable plate of food I'd ever seen and certainly does not warrant being Japanese. Most chefs take pride in displaying the 18 pieces of sashimi and 12 pieces of nigiri. Not this one. And, it was placed on a bed of shaved carrot instead of daikon -- yuck. The taste just was not appealing and did not go together. There's a reason why daikon is used. Substituting with cheap carrot for this $49 entrée is just wrong. The tempura dinner was okay but leave out the broccoli. Frying broccoli in tempura batter just produces a yucky mess of uncooked batter in the middle. And, please use a regular sauce dish so that we can actually dip the tempura in. The sauce came in a tiny portion cup that is about 1.5 inch diameter. None of the tempura could be dipped in the sauce. And our server was nowhere to be found after he dropped the food off. He never checked back and disappeared for a really long time. I finally had to go to the sushi bar to get sauce dishes appropriate for dipping. It would be okay, and just okay to go back for the cooked dishes but can't justify going back for sushi and sashimi. Yet another pseudo sushi place. And service was frustrating even though we're the...
Read moreI'm extremely thankful to have found a place like Wasabi. I'd provide the generic review that all good restaurants earn, but Wasabi is special to me in a different way. This past summer, my brother and I repatriated to the US for university after a decade living overseas. Where we used to live in Europe, food service operated on a different philosophy. The time at a restaurant was fully dedicated to the customer, and it was usual practice to let customers sit at their table after their meal for as many hours as they wanted, with minimal interaction from waiters. The pace of business, especially the food industry, in America is definitely more hectic, so when we first moved here, I began to miss the unpressured peace of European meal time. My brother and I used to rely on those unique restaurant experiences as a way to reflect on events and the direction we were intending to go.
Wasabi gave that back to us. A haven of authentic Japanese in a sea of mass-produced fast food, Wasabi's chefs and servers make me so grateful to have the privilege to visit a place like this at the end of each month, even as broke college students (I can't say we haven't skipped due to the budget though). The chefs deliver; you can see the intention and expertise in their practiced recipes, and the waiters here have consistently gone out of their way to maximize our experience, taking questions about calorie values and working on Christmas day, for example. They're not nice just because it's the social job description; they're genuinely great people, and you can sense this every time they just say hi.
Wasabi has awesome Asian food, and the servings are massive! Everything from the agadashi tofu to the teriyaki (insert preference) is well worth the price. But beyond that, every visit my brother and I make here is a memorable experience for which I'm...
Read moreThis place prides itself on presentation. From staff to napkins to food, everything is top notch. It's a tad pricey as far as sushi and hibachi menus go, but I can understand the expense. Our plates where gorgeous and the ingredients shined. There was no music, but I didnt have a problem with that. Dinner conversation was much more enjoyable. I orded chicken tenders for my kids, and they came out tempura style! They loved the light crunch and the fried rice was great. Our sushi rolls and hibachi entrees where amazing. Definitely coming back. This place outshines every other sushi/hibachi that we've been to in Cherokee Co. (Note: there is no "live" hibachi cooking that I know of (you know, sit around the grill while the cook makes choo choo trains with onion slices. Just hibachi entrees...
