Sometimes, it's a little upsetting having a partner who finds hidden gems like they're grains of sand on the damn beach- This is one of the most AMAZING, delicious breakfast/ brunch places to eat. I could try to describe the Blue Razz Lotus drink, which tastes like the last blue jolly rancher at the bottom of your bag without the artificial taste that comes with it. They have a coffee called, "Triple Late with cold brew?" Beautiful caffinated kick wrapped in complex nutty rich flavors of Carmel and chocolate that don't mask the coffees deep charm. And the burritos? I was delighted by my Arizona burrito, with my partner getting the Montery Jack burrito to follow. Although, if you'd like to blend the two you're more than welcome, as the amazing lady at the front desk let me add the Carne asada from the Jack into my meal. It's amazing, even just how the restaurant manages texture. Most places can have damn good food, but sometimes the feel is wonky in your mouth. Not here. This burrito had me struggling as the fluffy crisp hash browns added a much needed crunch to soft tortilla, which was carefully cooked with melty cheese, wrapped around chorizo that was layered in the best amount to spread an even heat through while not overwhelming the fluffy egg that pulled everything together. Don't even get me started on the smell as it came to our table, whatever they do with that Carne is just unfair. Honestly it became really frustrating as I ate my meal, because trying to be PG with something that tasted like it'd give Sally Albright a run for her money. The staff were also extremely polite and friendly. Not only was the woman who took our order very warm and inviting as she helped walk us through the menu, the man who served us in the camo cap and the awesome shirt added to the uplifting atmosphere as he presented the food to us while showing us where we could grab condiments OR GAMES.
It's a restaurant that spawned from a good food truck that still serves at Gilbert's Farmers Markets on weekends, one that cares not just about the taste but also the experience that their guests have. It might be a little more expensive than your normal meal, but it is genuinely worth it and honestly probably even more, though I hope they keep the price so more people can try to enjoy and experience it. Even if that was probably a burrito I'd be willing to spend $50 on, it's nice to know that from now on it just takes a few minutes in the car to get amazing quality ingredients loving bundled in ooey gooey delicious tortillas for $12 to $20 for two people's burrito.
"Good Carne isn't cheap," partner says, "and it stays...
Read moreI want to preface this review by saying that I would definitely recommend this place for anyone in the area, and that I hope my experience today was a one off and not the normal. The food is fantastic, as well as their coffee and energy type drinks. I love supporting local AZ family businesses, and their environment is very friendly. That being said, today was frustrating, and I want to be able to inform the owner of my experience today so that hopefully they can put measures in place to hopefully prevent this from happening again.
We came in today at around 11 with a party of 5. There was no wait to order, and we got all our drinks and food ordered with who I assume is the owner, a very kind and energetic gentleman that seems to take pride in his work. Our drinks were made very quickly, under 5 minutes, and like I said above, was very tasty. Our friends food that she ordered separately came out very quickly, around 5 minutes after we sat down.
However, as we kept waiting and enjoying our time, the minutes kept passing by. The staff would come out frequently to put food on the wire rack for delivery and pickup, and call out names for the orders. But they didn't seem to be checking tables. After 35 minutes of waiting, I spoke with one of the ladies, and she said she didn't see my order printed at all. She found it on the terminal, and explained their printer in the kitchen has not been printing every order like it should. I understand tech issues happen, but if this is a known issue, maybe consider checking on tables more frequently to make sure customers get their food? Even just a quick glance when someone is putting food on the rack and noticing a party hasn't gotten their food after 15 minutes would be a fantastic way to prevent this from happening again. They served us some tater tots while we waited as consolation for missing our order.
After 10 or so minutes after talking to staff about our order, the food was brought out. As usual, it was very tasty, but 2 of our burritos were room temperature or slightly warmer than, and my burrito was incorrect. I ordered a Monterray and received a california. At this point, I didn't want to wait any longer, so I just ate some of it and brought the rest home.
The food is very tasty, but I'm not sure I'm willing to travel 20 minutes for this place anymore considering my experience today. If I am in the area, I'm sure it will be a place to consider still, but today was not a good experience unfortunately. I really hope they can improve, as this place has fantastic food and the owner seems to really want this...
Read moreIf I was being hooked up to an electric chair for a crime I didn't commit and the warden asked me what I wanted for my last meal, it would be the chicken and waffle sandwich from Morning Kick.
First of all, you can choose how your egg is cooked on this baby. If you want the yolk running out on the egg with each bite, you can have it. And the egg is cooked well. The chicken has a taste I thought I couldn't find anywhere in Arizona. There is a small hidden gem of a restaurant in Louisiana that has the best, most savory, salty, perfect batter on their chicken and shrimp and Morning Kick has perfectly replicated that taste. The chicken inside is juicy and tender.
And then the waffle. The best waffle ever. You don't need butter or syrup because it's all baked right in. The texture is something almost approaching a donut but the flavor is out of this world. The sweetness is the perfect zone, the waffle batter is perfectly bready. I'm counting down the days until I have another.
I also got a breakfast burrito to share but I was so full from the waffle sandwich, I barely had any of it. I'm looking forward to it as left overs tomorrow. From the bites I did have, the burrito was literally overflowing with egg and tender pulled barbacoa beef. The portions in this thing are enormous and the meat is...
