The Blue Heron — Restaurant in Gilbert

What a disappointment! After making a reservation online, I called to ask a question about bringing an outside dessert for a 40th birthday party to find out that the reservation was not actually there. The manager called me back to straighten everything out and confirm our reservation for 10 to 12 people on a Saturday night specifying we would like to sit inside obviously in Arizona. Once we arrived with 10 people we were told that our reservation was for outside. Going to a speakeasy is for the atmosphere - sitting outside on a very muggy hot Arizona evening it’s not the vibe we were hoping for. After speaking to the manager, Stephen, he was unable or unwilling to accommodateus, the only option he gave us was to sit outside or wait 3 hours!! We got outside and the table was not big enough for our party and the fireplace was on and it was 80° with an enclosed patio that was only enclosed on the top so we could see all of the cars and the people walking by on the bottom, definitely not a speakeasy vibe!!!! The manager gave us a gift card and some free appetizers and then never came back to check on our table to see how we were doing. The waitress was great super friendly and super accommodating. The gift card the manager gave us was not able to be used tonight. We will definitely not be going to the Blue Heron again!! What a disappointment for my daughter’s 40th birthday. Stopped by here after work with my husband. We have friends who have recommended this spot and we expected to get some drinks, have dinner, and hang out for a while. I think we left after 15 minutes because it was so underwhelming. I will say, the hostess and our waitress were both very nice so I don't have any complaints about the service.

The music is VERY loud. Don't come here if you are hoping to have an actual conversation with someone. The tables are also super close together. If the music wasn't so loud, the surrounding conversations would still be overwhelming because you're less than an arm's distance away from the table next to you.

The drinks themselves were pretty mediocre. I ordered the Crane's Cloud and my husband got the Standard Old Fashioned. He said his drink was watered down. Mine was ok, nothing special, but the thick sugary texture made it very sticky and prone to dripping down the glass. They drinks weren't served with cocktail napkins and the waitress took away our cloth napkins when we decided against eating. This made a decent mess on the table and I just had to sit there with sticky hands until we left.

Honestly, I'm tired of going to these trendy speakeasy/themed bars hoping they're actually good for once, just to be disappointed when they're average at best and using the decor to justify charging $18...

Not the best first impression of this new Gilbert Cocktail bar. I have to say I’m a big fan of bougie cocktails. I picked this spot specifically for that reason. I’ve been to their sister restaurant the ostrich and also the white rabbit several times and have enjoyed both those places, but this place was pretty disappointing. I thought the vibe was cool, beautifully decorated and inviting. The hostess was lovely, our waitress was also great and did her best to help us find drinks we would like but honestly it was the menu and drinks that were a big miss, and considering it’s a cocktail bar that’s kinda the most important part. The ingredients were completely unrecognizable, aside from maybe the main liquor it was impossible to know what you were ordering. We literally had to google what was in the drink, you couldn’t even make an educated guess. They had a great Tuesday martini list on the menu but you were not allowed to order any of those any day but Tuesday. Apparently the ingredients disappear on any other day. You can’t make any substitutions if you prefer a different liquor in any of the drinks, you can get a bartenders choice if you like certain liquors, but that didn’t fair well for us ( the drink was absolutely terrible) our entire party of bougie cocktail loving ladies all agreed the drinks were meh and would not...
