People are nice, but I guess I have a higher standard for food taste. I ordered the baseball crab cake platter with collard greens and mash potatoes with Gravy.
This is getting 2 stars based on taste and quality of food alone. The crab cake is made with backfin crabmeat (stringy meat) with a not very tasty filler. I was very disappointed, crab cake leaves a bad taste in the mouth. However, I’ve been known to be picky on crab cakes. The sides were equally as disappointing. Collard greens were mostly chopped up stems and had absolutely zero flavor. The mash potatoes were either box mashed potatoes or made to taste like they came from a box. Gravy was only thing that could help these mash potatoes and 90% sure this Garvey came from a package. Based on previous reviews, I was expecting a lot better.
Other than this, people were friendly, services was quick and excellent. I acknowledge that maybe this was just a bad day for them......
Read moreWell we had moved away 20 years ago. Came back periodically to visit family & friends, but this was the first chance we have to run by Roy's and get one of his famous baseball crab cakes, and we couldn't wait! Hadn't had one in a very long time. We go in the store, place our order, and as we mosied around, realized that Old Roy has passed away. They have paid high tributes to him, he was a great man! Sadly, they let his famous crab cake pass with him. What they serve now is a far cry from a good crab cake, let alone how Roy made them. They are no longer hunts of lump crab meat, but instead a mushie mix of crab with alot of filler. What a disappointment it was for us, as well as a disservice to Roy's years of hard work perfecting that Baseball crab cake. Shame on whoever tookover the store, if you were going to change his ways, shoulda changed the name...
