Hello fellow food connoisseur(s) reading this review trying to gauge interest. I'm a modestly known film and tv producer all the way from Hollywood, California that moved to Texas, a few years ago, and I love me some Steakhouses, everywhere I go. Especially if they're near my set or location.
Well, while near Glen Rose for location scouting, I recently reserved an evening table for my wife and I at WhiskyWoods and stayed under the radar about myself, which I always do for pureness.
My time at WW steakhouse was supposed to be a special night for us, and below I have my statement on food - service - atmosphere.
First off, let me be clear... THE FOOD The food itself was fantastic. I couldn't have any higher praise than it was absolutely delicious, juicy, flavorful, and brain-meltingly good. Our Mussels Appetizer had a soup on the bottom that should be patented. Seriously, I've never seen my wife actually use a spoon like that to catch every drop. Same with our Entrees. BUT, with that, the staff need to understand that the food works hand in hand with the second part... THE SERVICE. I'll state my honest reason for the two stars, which should really be one star, but my wife gave me doubt, so we ramped it up to Two when the server noticed a fly in our water and quickly took care of the issue with a fresh glass. Anyway, the service was sub-par and near-atrocious for a restaurant that is on the high-end on the price scale. The front lacked motivation and then she sat us at the table that was so canted to one side our delicious soup was crooked as well. The table was stable though and solid. We didn't see a server for drinks for the first 12 minutes. Worst was the couple before us that walked in as we parked didn't have their drinks before we got ours. You gotta understand, which I will mention in a bit about the AC and why refreshment immediately after sitting is vital for a restaurant that was midway between warm and lukewarm. Our Server himself was polite and gentlemanly but his lack of awareness and the others as well will be the downfall of WhiskyWoods. "What am I talking about" you may be asking me. Example: Two people order The Mussels appetizer to share and the Staff bring out only one plate, one tiny fork for removing the good stuff and two TINY piece of break you can eat in one bit when there is so much delicious soup on the bottom. Awareness and common sense would say "Hey two people are eating the App. We should bring two extra plates." But nope.
Then the worst part.... we don't see the server for a while. Their hiring process at WW might be to blame here or maybe there's more going on in the background than I realize. Either way, I want to mention... THE ATMOSPHERE Whiskywoods has great lighting, decor, and ambience but that AC was dreadful and it created a slightly uncomfortable feeling. My wife and I were sweating waiting for our server before we stopped a young lady to put drinks on our table just so we drank something. After the ten minute mark, I was about to get up and leave to another place of business worthy of our Tender.
WhiskyWoods has the potential to be the premier place in Glen Rose but until the servers, crew, and others get on board with the program It will not be that. Every single person and table beside My wife and I waited ages for their check including me. FINAL WORDS... I spent over 140 dollars before tip and the next day, my wife and I went to "Snyder's Tavern" two blocks away and had the experience we wanted one hundred...
Read moreHonest opinion. First time to eat here. We waited in the front for a little bit for someone to come seat us. We thought maybe they were closed because no one was there to greet anyone. The food was okay, the mashed potatoes were very flavorable, and the kale was bursting with flavor .Chicken fried steak was tender but was pretty pink and had a lot of fat. The gravy was smooth, and the ten friench fries we did get they were ok. We just expected it to be a little better.. We wanted to see what all the hype was about, and we were very disappointed. The service was HORRIBLE.. Not only did it take 10 min to come to the table to take a drink order. We had no silverware, and they messed up the order, and we had to wait even longer for the correct food. Only saw the waiter one time we tried to get his attention to order an adult beverage, but he never came to the table. We had to flag someone down for a refill. The couple sitting next to us also received the wrong food and was not happy with the service. Everyone was sending their food back. It obviously wasn't the Cooks mistake it was the waiter and his not paying attention to what he was doing or what people were saying and ordering. There was, however, a young man who was trying to make things right and make people happy he was working harder than anyone in there. We told him about all the issues, and he did the best he could to make the rest of the chaos at least a little better. He was the only one who seemed to be doing his job and the waiters job. In the end, We had to flag down a young man to find the missing waiter to get our ticket. I hate leaving bad reviews, but hey, what can I say. I read the other reviews on here and saw the manager/owner whoever responds to people on here coming at people a little sideways for giving an honest review, which also is making people question this place even more then before. We have heard a lot of talk around town about how this place had taken a turn downhill, and everyone was disappointed. When we left walking out the door, there were people standing upfront waiting for someone to greet them. My question is why advertise on social media chicken fried steak night, etc, and not be prepared for the customers and not have anyone greeting people at the front. It wasn't that busy either. Needless to say, the gossip around town was right. The service is horrible. You would think that this place would have better service for the prices you pay for the food. Side note we also watched a guy walk out because the waiter refused to let him and his wife sit in the other part of the restaurant. He said quote "Do you know who i am?" He walked out, not so happy. We...
Read moreWhere do I start....when I say I'm a stickler on service I mean it. This place had THE BEST service I've ever had despite the server being busy. Jeni was Amazing and really made sure our visit was the best it could be.
It was our 4 year anniversary and we were greeted with nice friendly service as soon as we stepped inside. We were also greeted with a nice glass of some great tasting wine from the house for our anniversary.
I'm quick to write a review when I have a positive or negative experience and let me tell you this place exceeded all of my expectations. The service was the best we have had in all of the dfw area, the steak OH MY GOD that stake was THE BEST I've had in my entire life. I'm so happy we have another stake house option than what we normally go to.
Wednesday night is there "sushi" night and don't be hesitate. I don't remember the name but their sushi was DELICIOUS, it was topped with some type of stake.
Then there's the stake, that's stake was THE best stake I've had in my entire life and I mean that. As soon as they first bite hit my tongue a smile came to my face, it's that good. My wife likes her stake WELL done and this place NAILED it while also keeping the stake nice a juice. Not an easy task by any means. I order my stake medium and they cooked it perfectly. You can see the A1 in the photo but it didn't get touched, the stake is THAT good.
I can't wait until we get to visit again and get to experience the great service and even better food. Thank you so much for being part of our wedding anniversary!! We 100%...
