Wow! Actually, very good chinese is hidden in this great community. We drove past it twice, believing Google Maps was wrong. But, once we found it, we were treated to some really good cusines.
Steamed Char Sui Buns... in Glen Rose? The owner honestly told us she had them shipped in, but the taste and bite of the bun were awesome.
My wife's Cashew Chicken was as good as any she has eaten.
To test a good Chinese joint, I test their food with basic dishes like Chicken Chow Mein. Most places supply dry breast meat, tasteless sauce, and a medley of needless vegetables. Awesome, again. The breast meat was tenderize with the cornstarch marinade. The meat was tender and juicy. The sauce was flavorful and blended perfectly for this dish. The vegetables were simple and (my opinion) appropriate for chow mein. Celery, onions, and Napa cabbage (not green cabbage; yuck). Finally, the dish was thickened perfectly. A pleasant surprise.
Two bads: The fried pork wonton had a great wrapper but not enough pork filling to get a taste. I WILL PAY MORE for a good bite of the pork filling. I wondered when I ordered, it was too cheap.
The other negative was the sweet n sour that came with the fried pork wonton. It was watery. When dipping the wontons, no sauce clung. It would have been nice to at least dip the wonton wrappers for a decent flavorful bite. This leads me to believe I would have an issue with fried pork, chicken, or shrimp.
The people of Glen Rose are blessed with two Chinese...
Read moreThe only reason I’m giving this restaurant 2 stars is because it’s here in Glen Rose.
THE RESTAURANT The quality of furnishings such as the table and chairs are less than standard. The tables appear to have been made in the 70’s and the tops are “bubbling” up due to their age. The table I sat at had several pieces of clear boxing tape covering cracks in the top.
THE FOOD I ordered chicken fried rice and fried dumplings. My chicken fried rice was less than impressive. The rice had been cooked at an earlier time. The chicken was freshly boiled and then set in the rice. The entire dish had VERY LITTLE flavor. The only semi redeeming thing about this visit was the fried dumplings and even then, not so much.
THE SERVICE There wasn’t anything in particular that stood out good or bad about the service.
PRICE Outrageous! Twenty plus dollars for a medium portion of fried rice and 8 or so fried dumplings.
OVERALL EXPERIENCE I’m always very careful about being kind when leaving a review. So please know the little kindness shown above is a true reflection of my experience. I hope this isn’t the norm. Nevertheless, I have to say that I am thankful that we have another restaurant that serves similar a type of food...
Read morePlaced a take out order in person on 10/05/25. I was greeted warmly. I ordered house special fried rice, with a request for the dish to be prepared with less soy sauce. I also ordered beef with broccoli. The house special fried rice came out perfect. It was loaded with cubes of Chinese BBQ roast pork, shrimp, chicken and not overwhelmed by peas and carrots. The beef and broccoli was also a large portion. The beef ( sliced flank steak) was tender and in good proportion to the amount of broccoli in the dish. While I waited for my order ( only 15 min wait), I noticed the dining area seemed warm. The tables and chairs are simple. A few tables had damaged/ worn tops, I recommend seating yourself at one of the tables which are not as worn out looking. The dining area could use a detailed cleaning. It just appeared old and dated. Windows by the entrance need a...
