SWEDEN 🇸🇪 Excerpt from Eat the World Los Angeles: Despite being around since the 1960's, it was in 1991 that Berolina Bakery & Pastry Shop switched to its current ownership, a married team with roots in Stockholm, Sweden and Antwerp, Belgium. The couple had met in California four years prior to this and moved to Sweden together, but came back and transformed their new purchase into the European baking specialist it is today. Overlooking a section of Verdugo Road in the northern foothills of Glendale, the bakery has the feeling of belonging to a bohemian town many miles away from the big city. Groups of cyclists and outdoor types roll in with all their equipment and take a break, enjoying the pleasant outdoor seating especially during months that are not blazing hot. Come in the morning to take advantage of their breakfast sets, of which the simple Scandinavian breakfast ($7.50) provides the best sense of transport to your friend's cabin in the woods outside of Stockholm. It comes with coffee and very fresh orange juice, a bread roll and Danish of your choice, and slices of havarti cheese. The poppy seed roll pairs nicely with the cheese, and the coffee is surprisingly good for a Swedish café. The Danish is just as light and delicious as the cinnamon roll, and for the price the set is quite a steal.

Wow, above and beyond all expectations! I go to Shreiners next door all the time and see the line from Berolinas so when I was there the other day I thought I should check it out and now I understand why they are so popular. I just got a couple things to try, the florentine roll, wow, I love florentine cookies so I was already excited but when I bit into this, I was blown away with the cream filling, amazing! I also got a slice of the crack pie, hahaha oh my God, the guy that was helping me when I asked what this was, his response was something like, "the best thing you'll ever taste," and he wasn't exaggerating! It was/is simply mind blowing, out of this world! I also picked up an olive loaf of bread, again incredible, I feel like it's one of the top olive loaves I've ever had! I'll be back there this week to stock up on my pastry and bread cravings for sure!

We had a Princess cake on order for our gender reveal, we chose this as our cake because my aunt who passed last year was such a fan of this bakery and particularly, this cake. The bakery made sure that we couldn’t see what color was inside the box by carefully boxing and wrapping it for us, as a friend had called in the order to surprise us. We were so surprised to find we are having another GIRL! We want to extend our thanks and gratitude to the bakery for this special surprise and for providing us with the most delicious cake we could’ve ever imagined. Every single guest had seconds, even thirds of this cake, it was so delicious! You can taste the difference when you use a small home town bakery and not a generic grocery store. Thank you so much for a lasting memory and for helping us also honor my late aunt 🩷

Attitudes and unfriendly customer service. This is the second time I go there and the service has been bad both times. I was going to order several pastries and as soon as I asked for first pastry, the lady that was helping me was already at the register ready to bring me up. Then she saw that I wasn't done ordering and she still didn't attempt to go back and check, so another guy had to help me with the rest of my order. Then I tried paying with Google pay and apparently they only take Apple. But they're unaware of this. So I was there for a while trying to figure out why it wasn't working. Like I said this is the second time there and both times the staff has been unfriendly. The pastries are just ok. I have only been going there cause it's close to my house. I'm going to have to find another bakery...
