Buko went through a change in ownership over a decade ago, and has managed to maintain a loyal following. But it just isn't that great. I have a feeling the prior owners made it what it is, and the current management has to try and maintain that, but doesn't want to spend the money to elevate the quality of the food and dining experience. I also think the Covid lockdown shifted the focus of the restaurant away from service and presentation, to amassing takeout orders. --- My personal experiences at the restaurant have been hit or miss depending on who is working behind the counter and serving that day. Portions are getting tinier and tinier (maybe due to inflation?), soup is cold, and the atmosphere just isn't very nice. Sometimes sushi seems fresh, other times not so good. But if you like your rolls smothered in mayo and sauces, and your food deep-fried I guess you wouldn't notice. A gentle reminder and it's remedied as quickly and courteously as possible. We usually get the dinner combo (~$15...comes with ice cream!) and we've been very happy. The sushi/sashimi is always very fresh and the presentation is lovely. Teriyaki beef/chicken/salmon is tender, favourful and cooked perfectly. The beef ribs were actually bones and sushi rolls have become smaller and smaller every time we visit. Sad to say this will be the last time we will be visiting.
