I'm a bit of a beer snob which forces me to go to a lot of places to try local and craft beers that most other places don't serve. I found the beer to be satisfactory, other than I prefer darker beers. It's definitely the typical hipster brewery but everything was clean and the bartender was polite. I like the overall industrial look with visible brewing tanks and the barrel tables outside on the "patio" are nice. Long tables inside with people playing cards or just socializing. Quiet comfortable and warm feel. We were just passing through on a road trip and it served its purpose of giving us somewhere to kill an hr before dinner and drink beer. My only criticism would be, napkins could have been made available. I just needed one to keep my glass from sweating everywhere and our seats outside were a little wet from the light misty rain. I don't mind wiping off my own seat if I want to be the person who sits outside so can't complain about the wet seats lol. To his credit, when I asked for a napkin and none were available, he gave me his...
Read moreA friend and I went to Captain Fatty's for lunch. It was his first visit there. He and I are both from England originally and have very fond memories of English bitter, very difficult, if not impossible, to find in North America. I have had quite a few pints of Fatty's Pride in the past and have enjoyed it immensely. Now the brewery is serving it from an imported traditional English beer engine (a hand pump which draws beer directly from the keg or barrel and aerates it slightly). The result is excellent and my friend was as delighted as myself. I feel sure that Captain's Pride is modeled on Fuller's London Pride, a great bitter from a very old brewery in Chiswick, West London. On top of all this, the barmaid (barperson?) Vanessa, was very helpful and friendly. There will be more lunches there for my...

2022 update: Captain Fatties is becoming my favorite place to hang and enjoy a nice cold beer in Golta/SB.
Great vibe, friendly staff, nice mix of people, kid & dog friendly. Beers are great. Only challenge can be parking on some days!
2015 review: Really great small batch brews by Brewmaster Preston. Fun, kid-friendly place in that they always have root beer on tap, and a nice play area for the kiddos. Accommodating for groups; heck we even schedule an occasional yoga class here (Bendy Brews.) Always a lot of locals, and great...
