Birdie’s — Restaurant in Gorham

Seems like they are still figuring out things at this cafe. Great ideas but poor execution. We came by for lunch on a Sunday, first strange thing is where to order, no clear signage, menu or area to stand. We crowded the very front by the register for about 10 minutes before getting our order in. A small sheet of paper had some sandwich options, but no price, coffee listed on a chalkboard behind the bar/register.

The two ladies up front were very friendly but seemed a bit overwhelmed with a few groups that came in.

Coffee was very watered down for cold brew, chai latte was pretty sad and flavorless. Sandwiches were actually tasty with fresh ingredients, the bread on the Italian sandwich was excellent. Really threw me off to be handed a hot sandwich in a plastic bag though… probably will go elsewhere unless they get a bit...

The perfect lunch spot after a morning hike. I ordered the turkey sandwich and apple jam cake, both of which were phenomenal. The cake was seriously one of the best cakes I've ever eaten. It had the right ratio of jam filling to frosting with the oat crumble on top adding a nice crunch for texture. The sandwich came on a soft and airy focaccia roll and they did not skimp on the carved turkey! Everything was so good that I bought two cookies on my way out - pumpkin chocolate chip and oat chocolate chip. Both were soft and chewy and you can tell they use high quality ingredients. The cafe itself is located in a former bank and they kept a lot of the detailing, including the vault door, so I highly recommend eating in the cafe if you have time. My wife and I were up in the White Mountains visiting from the Lakes Region and found this little gem! The owners were a delight and the cafe was adorable. We loved the meatloaf sandwich and sweet tea. Perfect little snack before heading home! Then as we were leaving, I found the carrot cake and got a slice for the road. Well, it didn't make it far. I'm sitting on the side of the street and Gorham now typing this review and eating this amazing cake. I've eaten a lot of carrot cake and this is the best I've ever had, absolute perfection.
