4 OF US WENT FOR THE DINNER BUFFET SUNDAY EVENING AROUND 4-5 PM FOR THE FIRST TIME. UNFORTUNATELY ALL FOUR OF US WERE VERY DISAPPOINTED. WHEN WE GOT THE BILL FOR OVER $100 FOR DRY, OLD FOOD. HOW CAN SALMON BE DRY WHEN IT'S SITTING IN A TUB OF A BUTTERY SAUCE?! TOO OLD OR OVERCOOKED? NOT SURE. HAD BE OLD MAC & CHEESE TOO AS IT WAS ALSO OLD & DRIED OUT. THE "PORK FRIED RICE" WAS WHITE RICE LIKE A HOUSE RICE WITH NO FLAVOR. THE TEENY, TINY PIECES OF PORK ARE SMALLER THAN FLAKES OF TUNA FISH! THE SUSHI WASN'T EVEN GOOD. LET'S JUST SAY THE HANNAFORD SUSHI IS WAY BETTER. EGG ROLLS WERE TERRIBLE & CERTAINLY NOT FRESH. THE CRAB RANGOONS WOULD HAVE BEEN GREAT IF THERE WAS ANY CRAB MEAT IN THEM..., THERE IS NONE. PLEASE, THE ONLY STUFFING WAS CREAM CHEESE & ONION. THE PORK DUMPLINGS WERE ALSO OLD & PARTIALLY DRIED OUT TO THE POINT WHEN I WENT TO TAKE A BITE, THE BALL OF PORK MIXTURE JUST FELL RIGHT OUT! THE CRAWFISH THEY HAD LOOKED AMAZING BUT AS YOU PROBABLY GET BY NOW, THEY WERE SO OVERCOOKED, OLD, AND HAD NO GOOD FLAVOR AT ALL. LAST, BUT NOT LEAST, WAS THE 2 "MARGARITAS" WE ORDERED FOR $8 & SOMETHING EACH, THEY ARRIVED WITH A LITTLE TINY CHAMPAGNE FLUTE WITH NO SALT ON THE RIM EVEN THOUGH WE ORDERED IT, SO HE TOOK THEM BACK & ADDED A TINY BIT OF TABLE SALT TO THE SAME GLASSES AS HE HAD TAKEN FROM US... THEY WERE ABOUT 1/8th THE SIZE OF A REAL MARGARITA ANYWHERE ELSE..... NEEDLESS TO SAY THIS 5 ISH PM DINNER WAS DEFINITELY NOT WORTH THE MONEY OR TIME. YOU NEVER KNOW IF YOU DON'T TRY IT THOUGH, RIGHT?! IT'S DEFINITELY A LESSON LEARNED TO ONLY TRY NEW RESTAURANTS FOR LUNCH & ABSOLUTELY NOT STARVING LIKE WE ALL WERE! (I'M REALLY REGRETTING NOT TURNING AROUND TO GO TO THE TRIED & TRUE "OTHER CHINESE BUFFET" JUST UP A LITTLE BIT ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ROAD, THEY HAD THEIR USUALLY PACKED PARKING LOT, YET THE PARKING LOT HERE WAS BASICALLY, PRETTY EMPTY. YOU LIVE AND LEARN RIGHT?! NOW AT LEAST WE KNOW! HAPPY SEARCHING FOR GOOD CHINESE FOOD IN MAINE, ESPECIALLY A GOOD CHINESE BUFFET, THEY ARE...
Read moreLot's of weird reviews of this place so I am going to take time to write a detailed review. Some people say it is absolute garbage while others rave about how fantastic it is. Now here is the truth.
This restaurant opened recently less than a mile from a restaurant that does the exact same thing. Unusual choice for such a small community. To add to it their menu and hours are almost identical to their major competitor, the Dynasty Buffet.
The food is well prepared, but served between cold and lukewarm. This is unfortunate for the deep fried foods, but is mostly acceptable for the stir fried dishes. They have a very nice sushi bar which doesn't suffer from the temperature issues mentioned above.
The service is strange. It ranges from very attentive and professional to oddly unprofessional or indifferent.
The atmosphere is fine with a significant failing. There is a central location in the dining area where dirty plates are collected and leftover food is dumped. It is a bit unappetizing but mostly not visible when seated. Still troubling.
The prices are a bit high for what you are getting here but not too far out of line.
The do have a few menu items that stand out as being above and beyond their competitor. They do have raw sushi, which I would have loved to try, but, I need to know what kind of fish I am eating due to some allergies. When I asked the staff about the unlabeled sushi, I more or less got the 'no English'/'not my job' vibe.
The seaweed salad was fantastic as were the fried sesame desert balls.
I can see myself going back, but I am going to prefer the Dynasty until things...
Read moreI had high expectations for Zhang's Asian Buffet considering I had been waiting around in the area for what this new place had to offer. They had a wide variety of Asian style foods such as sushi, fried rice, dumplings, lomein, flounder fish, and other things. The disappointing part was the food itself. I grabbed myself a standard plate of rice, general tsos chicken, dumplings and some crab Rangoon. I sit down and start with some rice. That wasn't terrible it definitely needed soy sauce or something. Next was the GTC it was harder than a damn rock, I needed so much strength to get into it it was almost unbearable, I gave up on that. Rangoons: cold but still good, Dumplings, cold but also half decent. Me and my sister only had one plate of food. I took dessert to-go (Which was also not great.) Our wait staff was very nice though checked in on us and asked us if we needed anything and they were very sweet. Another thing to mention was the atmosphere, it felt very Chinese new year, and also a little tacky and flashy all at the same time. The place was lined with those LED lights that teens have in their room and they are constantly changing color. Just a very awkward place. I will try again in a few months when they have their...
