READ THIS!! I was so craving authentic Mexican food and the reviews led me here to El Zocalo. I ordered the Arrachera El Zocalo (steak with rice and veggies). I absolutely loved it…5 stars for taste. I give it 3 stars for variety… the menu is quite limited and it didn’t offer what I was hoping to order (a regular flour tortilla taco with ground beef and rice). The waiter was awesome… he was friendly and apologetic when he had to say, “I’m sorry, we don’t have that…we’re out of that…etc”. NOW…for the ZERO star review part: the menu showed that the Arrachera was $14 and some change. I had water with my meal. When it came time to pay, it was almost $20. I mentioned to the hostess that the menu said it was only $14 (something) and she said, “well the cost of beef has gone up”. So I responded by saying I should not be charged more than what the menu shows - the menu prices should reflect what we are charged and she said, “we can’t change the menu every time the prices change”…so BE AWARE! The food is great BUT ASK about pricing before you order. My Arrachera was great but I would not have paid $20 for it. In our party of 8, this happened to 3 of us - got charged $4-6 MORE than what the menu reflected. Way uncool! I...
Read moreI've eaten at El Zócalo about 10 times since moving to Goshen last year. The first time, I thought "this might be the best Mexican restaurant in the city." The second time, I thought "this might be the best in Elkhart County." And every time since then has only confirmed that belief for me. The dishes expertly pair traditional ingredients and techniques with creative flair. The Tacos Bravas and Chori-Pollo are two dishes that come immediately to mind for blending tradition and creativity with high quality ingredients and great technique.
Come hungry, too, because most of the dishes I've tried are very generously portioned. Last night I had the Torta Cubana, which might have been one of the 10 best sandwiches I've ever had, and also was the size of a newborn baby.
And if the weather is nice, don't hesitate to dine on their little balcony overlooking the walkway between the Depot and the Bag Factory. It's shaded and breezy and...
Read moreI really liked this place. It’s located inside the Old Bag factory so you have to go in the main doors of the old bag factory then turn right and head straight down past the bathrooms. It’s small only about 10 tables and one waiter but the service is still really good. They do not serve hard liquor or beer as far as I could tell but had sangria. We got Jarritos which were $2.5 each. We got the large queso for an app which was very good and hard to finish. My husband got a variety of tacos and they stole the show! They came with ample lime as well as an avocado sauce and spicy salsa. I got a steak burrito which was good but a little lacking in flavor. We also got the rice and beans. Beans were good rice was a little bland. Still, I would come back again. The service was great, we had plenty of chips, and the prices were more than reasonable. Also they stay open until 10 on a Friday. I was surprised to see that many local places...
