The staff that I encountered was very friendly. That’s about it! You pay $5 to get in and $6 for a bottled beer to stand around and watch people hired to dance for the internet. I would say this is not the country scene I would ever want to go back to! They have started a TikTok channel and all you see is people walking around with selfie sticks filming dancers at one end of the dance floor! Maybe it’s my age but they didn’t play any older line dances or older country musics! I requested a song and dance and tipped the DJ and NEVER heard what I requested! I feel not announcing what line dances they are doing is crappie because they have made all the line dance for yuppies instead of REAL COUNTRY line dancing and 2 stepping. I believe they have turned this into more of a hip—hop dance club trying to pass it off as country music. It’s okay to advertise but that is not all that comes to your bar! I believe this bar was ruined by some of the things that they have put in place. I get trying to be hip for the younger crowd but there are still people in the older era that like the country line dances and the two step music and don’t just like to stand around and watch a bunch of people you hired do dance circles! I feel like I tipped the DJ to play something and he just has that jar up there to get money but doesn’t play what you ask! A QR code to request songs, ridiculous. I can remember a time that bar was wall to wall people and you had very little room to walk. Being in there Saturday night there was not half of what I every remember seeing. It was sad that walking around seeing the crowd and the music they were playing it definitely matched the age. Think about adding back in some of the stuff that the is REAL country line dancing and 2 step music. Not dance circles and dances that don’t get announced so if someone does want to learn a new line dance they know what it is! There is not a decent country bar in the KC area as far as I am concerned and hasn’t been in a long time! What this bar has turned into is sad! I thought maybe this bar would get better but it has gotten terrible. It’s more of a way to people watch! They don’t count line dances out anymore so everyone is off count and I can remember when I could watch a line dance and pick up doing it by watching but everyone is doing all different steps and different times so you can’t learn anything!...
Read moreCosts: 5 dollar per person on entry 12 dollar drinks. Bring cash for the door no cards allowed. After you enter cards can be used.
Security: All over the place you will be wanded with a metal detector when you walk in so no knifes or weapons.
My expectations: I was hoping for a night to listen to country music have some drinks with my spouse. A few line dances with more an intimate dance or two. But that’s not what happened.
Atmosphere: Great atmosphere with cordial polite people yes it is a smoking bar multiple things to keep you entertained for a few hours from dancing, pool, mechanical bull, to fire pits out back.
Music: This is kinda my thorn in my side. For this to be in Grain Valley and to be called Mo Country you’d think that more country music would be played but it’s not. We arrived at 10:00 stayed till 12:15 in that time frame a ton of hip hop & pop music was played which is fine it’s not a bad thing and can be expected. But no slow country music and the music that was played for country fan enthusiasts it’s all old stuff. Dude common a little bit of Jon Wolfe, Morgan Wallen, Eric Church, George Strait, Nate Smith wouldn’t have killed the vibe at all and it would have definitely given the couples a chance to vibe together too. Not just hang out at tables. I’m not saying all the music needed or has to be slow I’m fair but appeal to everyone but the back street boys, lil John, electric slide, footloose all songs that have been played in these halls for the better half of a decade or two can go to the trash can already. Too many good country songs have made the way onto the scene in the last 3 years to not hear a single one played. It’s kinda wild to think that a decade later we are still hearing songs that our parents danced to in jump out pants and crazy hair the same stuff half of us were conceived to are still being played when a ton of really good country songs have been made since.
Suggestions: Train your DJ to find new music to play it’s 2023 no reason to keep repeating generation old music...
Read moreI’ve been in the KC area for about 6 years now and I’ve frequented just about every known bar/club in the area. I have many friends who work in the entertainment industry so I’m familiar with the ebb and flow that go into creating an atmosphere that not only fits the clientele but also builds a lasting impression as an asset to the community. Whiskey Tango’s has had its ups and downs over the years. It wasn’t until this past year that I even bothered going because of the negativity that surrounded the name. Since the new ownership in the fall, I’ve been roughly 10 times and each time I go there’s a new improvement. It’s not just the appearance that has changed, but also the atmosphere itself. You can tell the management pays attention to detail and wants to create a space where all can come and enjoy a safe, entertaining night to let loose with their favorite people. I drive about 45 minutes to come here and I’m never disappointed. The bartenders and waitstaff are friendly and helpful. If there’s a miscommunication they’re quick to resolve it. I once ordered a drink I didn’t like and they replaced it no questions asked. The security team is attentive and competent, while remaining professional at all times. The music is designed to stay true to the country vibe while staying relevant to the times, inviting people of all age groups to participate in the night’s fun. I am a line dancer and two-steppin’ gal, so good music and a good dance floor are high priorities on my list. This place has both, and keeps me dancing all night long. I don’t have to worry about my drinks getting highjacked, my belongings going missing, or getting run over on an overcrowded, slippery dance floor. There will always be things people dislike, but in my opinion Whiskey Tangos is by far the best country bar in the KC area, and I can’t wait to see what other developments they have planned for this...
