Abelardo’s Mexican Fresh — Restaurant in Grand Island

A restaurant lives or dies by their cook. I've eaten at Abelardo's numerous times since they opened. I've always been happy with the service and the food. Tonight I sat at the drive through window for over 15 minutes with 5 cars backed up behind me. I've had the Green Chilli plate several times in the past and sometimes it's been better than others. Tonight it was disgusting. It didn't look or taste like the same dish. The sauce was runny, the pork looked more like something coarsely ground with large pieces of fat and gristle in it. The rice was dried out and the beans had no taste. I ended up tossing it in the trash. I was hesitant to try this restaurant because they are fairly new in the area and I'm reluctant to try new foods because normally they're disappointing and I leave having buyers remorse 😬 but this place did not disappoint. They are open late and the food is amazing. We ordered the #24 (chicken fajitas) and two chicken enchiladas 🤤🤤🤤 both dishes were delicious. (The enchiladas were very good) The service was quick and great. Very kind young man working the drive thru. Glad it was so late and everywhere was closed giving us the opportunity to try a place we probably normally wouldn't have went to if our favorite places had been open. We ordered our food and my son and I were sitting down enjoying our food Intel 10:28 am on Oct 30th a ladey ran in and went strait to the counter and was chatting with the staff at first then other staff come out and she was still chatting with them and was almost behind the counter just talking. At first thought no big deal how nice an employee come in on her time off and talk to her friends how nice then she pulls out a vap and looks me strait in my eyes while she puts it to her lips and vaping in the restaurant that just ruined the whole experience why is vaping allowed in there by someone who clearly works there.
