I am a trucker and order a lot of Chinese from all over the United States. I order the same thing every time, from every place. Chicken wings, moo goo gai pan or chicken chow mein, and wonton soup.
I like to examine every aspect of the dishes I order and review them based on there redeeming qualities or imperfections. You can go back and see my other reviews on other Chinese places I’ve ordered from throughout the country.
Chicken wings- very good, classic Chinese chicken wings. They were prepared my favorite way, lightly breaded in corn starch or something and deep fried. Pretty typical Chinese wings, nothing fancy but fresh and hot. They did add a nice garnish to the to go order. My favorite type of wings so I’m biased . 8.7/10
Moo goo gai pan- now, comparably this dish stood out. Not a ton of oil, all kinds of vegetables, and plenty of chicken. One thing I noticed is they added bok choy like most places do but, they left the green leafy part on which is the best part. A lot of Chinese restaurant use the leafy part for other dishes and just use stem because they are cheap. 9.2/10
wonton soup- very good flavor, lots of vegetables (which you never see) but only 2 wontons and a small soup compared to most places. The soup would be in the high 9’s if it was bigger and maybe added some pork to the soup. That’s just my preference though. Very solid though. 8.5/10
Overall I really liked this place and I exceeded my expectations. Based on the quality of the food I would say this place goes out of its way for customers.
Thank you, Bamboo City.

Read moreThis place is awesome. My fiance and I are from Boulder and San Jose. Two places that have authentic Chinese, Vietnamese, Japanese, Korean, and Thai food all over the place. Moving to GJ was a shock to us when we looked for ethnic food. Slowly we have found good restaurants. We were excited when we found this place that didn't offer "Asian" food, and acutally had specifically Thai and Chinese. We've tried a number of dishes that have all been wonderful (Mongolian beef, Szechuan Chicken, Hot and Sour soup, spring rolls, egg rolls, Lo Mein, and Panang Curry ), but the last time we were there, the most wonderful thing happened. I asked a gentleman waiter that I could tell was Vietnamese if he knew where we could get some pho, and he said since he had moved out here that he started making it for Bamboo City as an occassional weekend specialty dish since it takes 8 hours and is a fair amount of work. I can't wait to try it!!! These guys are great. Give em a try! As a reference of other places we enjoy - No Coast Sushi/Suehiro, Indian/Nepal restaurant on Main St., amuzement hour at 626 Rood...
Read moreI wish there was a zero star option. My daughter's sweet and sour chicken was gross. The chicken was mostly tendons and something black that wasn't chicken...yuck... my daughter lost her appetite. The beef and broccoli tasted like it came from a week old buffet, the mu shu chicken was most likely not chicken and tasted bad regardless of whatever meat it was (again probably not chicken). The curry chicken didn't taste like curry (it tasted more like Steph Curry's socks after a game) and had the same veggies as the sweet and sour chicken (which is weird, but the least bad thing about the curry experience).
The service was disorganized, it took 15 minutes to get water, we received the wrong boba, and the right boba came out one every 5 minutes, we had three, do the math. However, the boba, when it came out, was great. If the food wasn't so terrible I'd give it 5 stars for the boba, 0 for the service and 0 for the food.
Oh and don't go there on a cold day, because every time someone opens the door you feel like you've just entered a walk-in freezer.
Better yet don't go at all, there's a lot of options in grand junction or even gas station nacho...
