Lunch on the River with Olin. Peaceful. 🔈 Sounds of birds chirping and the water rushing by. Tasty sandwiches and mojitos. 🧑‍🍳 Lovely! #rapidslodgegrandlakes #grandlakecolorado #mountainlife @Erica Jones Starkey @avaaaaaaa

Beautiful historic place, with a stunning creekside restaurant just off the main street in Grand Lake. Lots of history and memorabilia inside that sets the stage for what should be a great experience. For this visit, we were only there for dinner, which turned out to be a pretty average (at best) experience. To start, our waiter, who we assumed was the proprietor of the restaurant, said he "made" the menu. Looked good, great semi-fine dining choices. He gave us his "schpiel" about the menu, telling us the most popular items and the "sleepers". I was hungry, so I ordered the 18oz Beef Ribeye Steak, which was one of the popular choices. We got our salads first, which were glorified coleslaw, but without gratuitous mayo. Then we got the bread - 13 people at the table (4 kids), and they gave us 10 pieces of bread. When we asked for more, the food server said, "um....sure", almost like he was hesitant to give us more. We're not off to a good start. As things went on, unfortunately our waiter got a little more obnoxious as dinner went on. Not to a super annoying point, but getting there. When the main course came out, the step looked more done than I had asked (medium rare, but more on the rare side). It was definitely seared, which is fine, but when I cut into it, it was definitely more on the medium side. As I started cutting into the steak, I notice a TON of fat, more than any other ribeye I'd ever had (well over a third, close to half, of the steak). I know ribeyes have fat, but this was too much. When I started to ask about the fat, our waiter abruptly said, " Yes! Ribeye is the fattiest cut, so that's normal." Never even gave me a chance to say anything about the amount I had cut away. After this, we all felt like we were being rushed out, until he (waiter) said he'd take a pic for us outside by the creek (saving grace). Overall, not great. Could have been a LOT better.

Had dinner there, just tonight, for first time. Our party of 3 was seated outside, right next to the river rapids. It is a unique & gorgeous setting. (5 stars for atmosphere.). The menu proved to be limited, and pricey. $50 for filet mignon, and $48 for rib eye steak. Wow, downtown Chicago prices! But ok. For such a lovely setting, on a beautiful evening, we decided to enjoy the meal/experience regardless of very high prices. -- But, uh oh...then came the food. The filet, and one of the rib-eyes were both delicious. But, another one if the $48 rib-eyes was simply a terrible cut of meat. It wasn't just marbled, as any ribeye would be. Rather it was tough, chewy and full of gnarly fat lines throughout the steak. My wife was able to eat/chew only about 25% of the entree. The remainder was simply inedible. -- When our waitress returned to clear plates, my wife nicely explained that she'd been served a bad cut of meat, which was far below the level of quality we had expected, especially at that price. In response, the waitress.... Paused; Looked at us; and then Said. Absolutely. Nothing.... as she cleared the table. She did not ask us any further questions. She did not apologize for the bad cut of meat. She did not offer to get a manager. She did not remove the $48 charge from our ticket. She did/said absolutely nothing. Oh well. -- So. Bottom Line.... Great location. Decent service during meal. Good chance of getting a good meal. But clearly NO guarantee nor assurance that you will get quality & value for your $45-$50 entree. And that's too much money to just throw away, like we did tonight.

I would have LOVED to give this place a good review as the food was very good. However, what happened after is nothing like I’ve ever experienced and as a business owner myself I am absolutely floored. Our bill was somewhere in the $70s ( can’t remember exact) . I placed a 50 dollar bill and 2 $20s in. I know some places are cashless so instead of even leaving it on the table I even walked it over to our waitress and handed it to her verifying they accepted cash. She opened it looked at us and said thank you. About 45 minutes later my niece noticed that she had a missed call from the restaurant ( they had her number from making the reservation). Of course we thought we must have left something and called back. I was across the table and could hear the lady very rudely accusing us of not paying enough. She was extremely rude proceeding to say things like “this stuff doesn’t happen to us” which basically to me applies she thinks we weren’t good enough to dine at her establishment and couldn’t “afford” it. I promise you that isn’t an issue. I would typically question if I made a mistake but I knew exactly how much cash I had on me and double checked because I would never stiff someone as I said I myself am a small business owner . My niece took the call better than I would have. She asked her politely what she was wanting us to do and she wanted us to give her a credit card over the phone. We absolutely were not going to do that when we know for 100% that we paid $90 even. She proceeded to be absolutely nasty over the phone so we hung up. She then proceeded to continue to call back. After further review of some of the google and Facebook reviews it seems that the management is absolutely terrible and rude to several customers . I’ve never in my life experienced someone be so hateful and accuse someone like that and proceed to act like we weren’t good enough. As I said, if I knew we did make a mistake it would have been no issue but I can guarantee that we did not .

The fact that you replied the way you just did proves it all. The way you reply to your bad reviews is terrible business . it’s very clear you need an attitude adjustment or maybe a hug. My niece was so kind to you on the phone and NEVER accused anyone of stealing anything she simply said maybe it fell out in her apron. Our waitress was very kind .. but she also opened it and looked and ASKED us if we needed change so she clearly saw it. You want to be mad because you feel like we’re lying but how do you think we feel? I hope your damn doors get shut down if you’re the owner. You do not deserve to...

There are pros and cons to this place. I will start with the pros. The lodge sits in a great area with a beautiful river setting behind the lodge. You can keep your windows open at night and hear the river running and it's very peaceful and serene. The lodge is just far enough away from the "Grand lakes Town" to get peace and quiet but everything you need is in walking distance. Grand Lakes is a tiny town with a main street full of neat shops, restaurants, bars with live music. It is also right by the Grand Lakes beach area if you want to rent a kayak, paddle boat, or other water sports. I cannot say enough about Grand Lakes, the amazing views, great restaurants and atmosphere. We also had great service from the waitstaff. The Cons: We stayed in Room 1 and there is nowhere to put your clothes. We stayed 3 nights/4 days and I wanted to unpack my suitcase but all they had was a small closet with maybe 3 hangers. The bathroom also did not have any shelves or counter space to put your things. The shower is a tub and the water pressure was okay until someone else in another room flushed the toilet. Then you got scolding hot or freezing cold water. You also need to know up front that there is no cleaning service during your stay. If you want more towels, you have to go and request them. I also agree with another review that the views on the website are a bit deceiving. I assumed we would have access to the river and the wonderful sitting area but quickly found out that you have to be a guest of the restaurant to have access to the nice tables and benches to enjoy the view. My husband and I tried to use the cabana to enjoy our coffee and was told it was for restaurant guests only and we could sit there if we purchased THEIR coffee. When I told the guy (apparently the manager) "no thank you" to the coffee he laughed at me to the couple he was waiting on...it was extremely rude and...
