This place is advertised everywhere as a “hotel,” but in reality, it’s a run-down motel—and they even admit that on-site.||Our nightmare started at check-in. We arrived at the listed 4 PM check-in time, only to find the front desk closed with a sign saying “out of office, on site.” We waited in our car until 4:40 PM, but no one showed up. Since we had plans, we left, hoping to check in later. We returned at 7:30 PM (just 30 minutes before the latest check-in time of 8 PM), and the front desk was already completely closed. Instead of a proper check-in, they left an envelope in an unlocked lockbox with our room key inside, meaning literally anyone could have taken it.||Then came the room itself. The moment we walked in, we were greeted by a half-drunk tequila bottle on the floor—so clearly, no one even bothered to clean properly. The motel was incredibly old and run-down, and it only got worse from there.||The noise levels were unbearable. All night, the heater banged, our neighbors’ TV blasted until midnight, and even after that, we could clearly hear loud snoring through the walls. To make matters worse, the fridge wasn’t even cold and made a high-pitched ringing noise all night. Just when we thought it couldn’t get worse, at 5 AM, we were woken up again by the thunderous footsteps of the upstairs guests.||And despite all of this, they still had the nerve to charge $110 for one night. The motel falsely boasts a “lakeside view,” but (through no fault of theirs, but still worth noting for winter travelers) the lake was completely frozen and covered in snow, so that “view” didn’t exist.||We got out of there as fast as possible the next morning. Do yourself a favor and stay...
Read moreThe Western Riviera was featured on Hotel Impossible in February 2013. From what I saw, the man critiqued the motel, and found several things wrong with it. The bathrooms are still the same. Old, grimy, and outdated blue tile. The bathroom sink is rusty and it has a very old faucet. The room smells strongly of many people being in here. It's not pleasant. I feel uncomfortable here. Like the sheets haven't been properly washed. I feel like everything I touch is contaminated with germs and that it hasn't been cleaned in a very long time. The coffee room doesn't offer any flavorings but brands I've never heard of and sugar. The hot chocolate powder is placed in the corner with a plastic container. Who knows how long that's been there? Also, the lobby smells heavily of cigarettes. Don't get me wrong, the women at the front desk are friendly. What bugs me most about this room is that they don't have any clocks whatsoever. The man on the Hotel Impossible show said that he wants to make every hotel you stay in "perfect." This is by far one of the worst places I've stayed in my lifetime. Also, there are no proper bed sheets. There's no bedspread. Right now, the lake is frozen over and there's fresh snow on the ground. I'd like my bed to come with lots of warmth during these times. In the show, they remodeled their tv's to nice, modern-day flatscreens. The one we have in our room is an old tv. The ones with the backs that stick out really far. Grand Lake is beautiful, and Western Riviera has a great view of it, but I suggest they modernize their motel in all rooms, and definitely add some air fresheners in here. I could barely stand the smell when...
Read moreWe wanted a Lakeview the only ADA rooms they have are located in the courtyard. Super large bummer. So I opted for the not so ADA but wheelchair accessible lakeside room. We stayed in room #6, there is a step up to the room, not a big deal I just helped my husband in. Although there is so much furniture in the room that I had to move tables and TV tables around for him to be able to even get in the door. Once we were in I noticed that the bathroom door is not wide enough for a large person to get through let alone a wheelchair. Super big minus since I asked if it was a wheelchair accessible room. It was on the outside but not on the inside. The large bed in the master room leaves very little room for walking around. There was a broken fridge under the sink that had not been cleaned up before being taped up. My recommendation is to cover it with a curtain so people don't even know its there. The beds are very comfortable, even the pullout sofa was nice. It felt clean and well taken care of. I went to open the blinds and the covering at the top fell off. The shower head in the bathroom could use some real maintenance. I recommend putting in a handheld for those that need to sit in the shower. Smoking is allowed outside on the balcony in front of the rooms. I would prefer there to be a better place, since the rooms have no A/C, and to get a breeze you want the windows open. For nonsmokers, someone may as well be smoking in the room.
All in all the staff was great and we had a great time on the lake. We were able to get a good nights rest and get back out there to enjoy another day...
