Disappointing Experience at Grand Lakes on busy long Weekend
Our visit to Grand Lakes during the busy long weekend left much to be desired, primarily due to the unwelcoming service. While it's understandable for restaurants to be crowded during peak times, the way situations were handled, and the general demeanor of the staff, created a less-than-pleasant experience. Upon arrival, we encountered a significant queue. A customer ahead of me, attempting to manage hungry children, inquired about the possibility of ordering takeout while hoping a dine-in table would become available. The staff member's response was curt: a firm "you have to choose one option only," delivered without any apparent empathy or willingness to consider the customer's predicament. While I understand the operational reasons behind such policies, the delivery of the message felt unnecessarily rigid and unwelcoming. My own experience with a takeout order further solidified this impression. I was quoted a 40-minute wait time, so I decided to wait at a nearby park. As my pick-up time approached, an unexpected rain shower began, forcing me to rush back to the restaurant to avoid getting drenched. Upon my arrival, I was informed of an additional delay as my order was "about to be taken out of the oven." When asked if I needed anything while I waited, I requested a cup of water. To my surprise, I was told they didn't have cups, only bottled water available for purchase. This was particularly frustrating as I observed dine-in customers being served water in cups, highlighting a clear disparity in how takeout customers were treated compared to those dining in. This selective service left me questioning why takeout customers are seemingly deemed less deserving of basic courtesies like a complimentary cup of water. Overall, while the crowd on a holiday weekend is to be expected, the unhelpful and seemingly discriminatory service significantly detracted from our visit to...
Read moreAfter checking out Rocky Mountain National Park, we decided to try Grand Lake’s Pizza. I called in for pickup but forgot to ask about the prices beforehand (rookie mistake). We ordered a Supreme and a Hawaiian. Before I even looked at the receipt, I wanted to guess what they cost… and let’s just say the price left me stunned.
Now, don’t get me wrong—the pizzas were probably some of the best I’ve ever had. The crust tasted fresh, the toppings were flavorful, and the cheese was generously layered. Even the sauce stood out—rich, tangy, and clearly made with care. The pepperoni and ham were nothing like what you get at chain places; they weren’t greasy or overly salty. And surprisingly, the pizzas themselves weren’t oily at all. So here I am, going back and forth in my head: yes, the pizzas were incredible, but the price made us feel a bit scammed—especially being from out of town. At the same time, part of me keeps justifying it because the quality really was that good.
In short: hands down the best pizza we’ve ever had… but also the...
Read moreOk, so one star looks pretty dramatic, but yes, it really was THAT bad. My 12 year old little brother went inside to get takeout while I waited in the car, as it was hailing and there was nowhere to park. After a while of waiting, he finally came out empty handed. Apparently, he had stood waiting for help at the counter for almost a half hour (yes it was REALLY that long), while another customer continually pointed out to the woman at the counter that he was waiting. They never helped him and when he finally came outside without having been helped I went inside to complain. The woman at the counter told me with COMPLETE indifference that she had, "never seen him in her life," and that, "we stop serving takeout at 6:25." They close at eight. She told another customer ahead of us (also being denied takeout) that, "the kitchen is full," whatever that means. This was all after they couldn't be bothered to answer their phones when we tried to call and order ahead. Terrible service, and as a local I guarantee you they will never get...
