The drive to this amazing lake though long as compared to the drive to Bear Lake, is worth the drive. If you are planning to go in winter as I did, make sure you have good winter wear. Though it was sunny when I visited this place, it was subzero Fahrenheit with strong winds. Berthoud Point comes on the way to the Grand Lake. Be sure to stop at this lovely spot. Summer would be an ideal time to visit Grand Lake as you get to go on the Trail Ridge Road which connects the Bear Lake to the Grand Lake. Also, be sure to have a stop at the Winter Park enroute Grand Lake. They have great snow sports. You may need to book them atleast a day in advance to enjoy the recreations. The ice is not very slippery unlike other spots so that you can enjoy many other sports like snow tubing, skiing. Going on Thanksgiving did not get us disappointed. In fact it was mesmerizing and the crowd is lot less compared to the peak summer time. Though this is not the time when snow starts, be prepared to drive on a snowy road.
