after exiting Trail ridge road (it's not a loop, so when you enter from the East side, you will exit at the grand lake. it is itself a beautiful lake and I would recommend spending some1-2 hours here. or better overnight stay. The Grand Lake area is a series of three lakes, the deepest and largest natural lake in Colorado. a hidden gem sitting at the base of Shadow Mountain on the western outskirts of Rocky Mountain National Park. The lake is surrounded by outstanding hiking and wildlife and is excellent for water sports and activities. The lake can get windy and choppy as the day goes on you can also enter RMNP from the west side. The western entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park is located just a mile or so north of Grand Lake.

Fantastic views. Getting on the lake and the access through to shadow mountain lake is fun. Decent trout lake, especially with a boat and some experience. Love the sunsets and the fall colors.

The drive to this amazing lake though long as compared to the drive to Bear Lake, is worth the drive. If you are planning to go in winter as I did, make sure you have good winter wear. Though it was sunny when I visited this place, it was subzero Fahrenheit with strong winds. Berthoud Point comes on the way to the Grand Lake. Be sure to stop at this lovely spot. Summer would be an ideal time to visit Grand Lake as you get to go on the Trail Ridge Road which connects the Bear Lake to the Grand Lake. Also, be sure to have a stop at the Winter Park enroute Grand Lake. They have great snow sports. You may need to book them atleast a day in advance to enjoy the recreations. The ice is not very slippery unlike other spots so that you can enjoy many other sports like snow tubing, skiing. Going on Thanksgiving did not get us disappointed. In fact it was mesmerizing and the crowd is lot less compared to the peak summer time. Though this is not the time when snow starts, be prepared to drive on a snowy road. There was an unexpected snow when we got back from the Rockies. It can be a daunting and risky experience to drive in that weather. Be prepared to enjoy the scenic place and...

Very scenic lake accompanied by a mountainous terrain. Better to head there when it's a bit warm outside. Do try the local restaurants as the town is full of them. The entrance to the lake is easy to identify and has a nice patio-like walkway. A nearby icecream kiosk adds to the experience. Highly recommended to drive by this lake if coming through...
