Good burger and amazing fries. Standard bar/pub atmosphere.
Goliath Burger $16 (with fries): TWO THIRD POUND PATTIES! TONS OF CHEESE! Regular bun.
That is the sum of it, but here are some details.
The burger patties are third pound patties and about average. They were cooked at about medium-well by default. It says never frozen, but it didn’t seem to ultimately affect the taste a lot in their case. Not bad, but not unique.
The cheese was coated on this burger! You can barely see the beef patties. The cheese, though there were loads of it, was actually mediocre and was a bit of a bland texture and taste.
I added ketchup and mayo to it and it helped liven it up a bit. I did enjoy it.
Fries: AMAZING! Get them! They were good and hot all the way to the end, even if they were thinner. They were crispy, but soft inside. The batter and seasoning were slightly sweeter and full of savory goodness.
Service: You seat yourself here, but there is table service. I was a bit confused walking in because it was not communicated, but I quickly figured it out. My waitress was quick and helpful. The burger didn’t take too long. Paying was fairly painlessly quick.
Atmosphere: Standard bar feel. The music played was a variety of 90’s pop and rap and they play it louder with thumping bass (not my cup of tea).
Conclusion: The prices were good and the quality was ok. I had a few people recommend Birch Lodge and I may come back for their Lodge Burger because that has American cheese and that’ll probably register with me and fit into my general baseline of how I gauge burgers.

Read moreThis is gonna make me sound like an old curmudgeon, but I'm going for it anyway. First of all, I love this place. It has the most insanely affordable happy hours in Grand Rapids (which is surprisingly good), It's a fun place to get drunk and have fun with friends, and the atmosphere takes you from a busy city, to feeling like you've stepped in to an old cabin bar out in the sticks. The ONLY thing that keeps me from coming here more often (and here comes the curmudgeon part) is the level they play their music. The music itself isn't the issue. It's the volume. It's hard to have a decent conversation with anyone here, let alone even think clearly enough to convey a clear thought. It's like club level loud. Which really doesn't mesh well with the hunting cabin/lodge vibe the original owner was clearly going for. Besides that, I still go somewhat regularly when I'm in the...
Read moreAll I want in a place to stay is cleanliness and reasonably priced. This hotel exceeded both my expectations and more. Complimentary kayaks, paddle boards, etc. They provided muffins, oatmeal, juice in the morning. They even supplied the room with goodie bags for my dogs. The location is about an hour-hour 1/2 away from of Sault St. Marie, Tahquamanon Falls, Pictured Rocks, Mackinaw City. The outside of the Inn needs some upkeep (it’s a 1912 house) but don’t let that deter you from staying. They owners have done an excellent job remodeling. If I had one complaint it would be that the water did not drain as fast as I would like in both the sink and tub. However, I can easily look past that provided everything else this hotel had to offer. 10/10 would...
