Needed salt. Soggy Waffles. A little pricy for what you get. Otherwise okay. - Country Fried Steak: I've had Country Fried Steak multiple times from multiple New Beginnings locations. It is usually the same. Tastes like it is from a box, been sitting in the freezer for a few days, a little tough, but overall, okay. The price doesn't justify it anymore, though. - Sunny Side Up Eggs: One was popped and they were a bit bland. Learning about the potatoes later, I probably should have salted and peppered them. - Potatoes: Usually order hash browns, but tried the regular potatoes. They were bland at first, but with salt, it came alive! I'd highly recommend them. - Rye Toast: Slightly dry, but good. I usually order rye at New Beginnings and it is almost always that way. - Belgain Waffle with strawberries: Came in a pool of water (juice?). Was too soggy to finish. Waitress explained away as the nature of having it with fruit topping. I disagree. You can drain the water and make it palatable. Texture is an important part of cuisine. - Coffee: Lower tier restaurant coffee. At least it is marginally cheaper than other restaurants. Saw the waitresses pouring old coffee into other pots. It is going to save cost, but it is not going to taste as good that way. - Atmosphere: Sat at a booth and my seat had jam and salt that had to be cleaned before sitting down. Otherwise, it was a fairly cozy atmosphere. The waitress was not rude and we generally were taken care of.

Sue was an absolute delight! Request Sue when you visit. She's attentive and caring. Your cup of coffee will not be empty until you ask her to stop! She is friendly and warm. She walked over to our table and smiled 😀 Bonus!! We will be back to visit Sue again. The breakfast was delicious. I had the Greek omelette. Great choice if you love feta cheese. They don't have a lot of gluten free options but it works. I could pick and choose what I could eat comfortably. The restrooms could use more care and cleaning, but I loved the retro 70's era tile matched with the red brick floors.

I love this restaurant reminds me of going to the classic diners with my grandparents in the 80s. It's like every time I walk into a new beginnings restaurant it reminds me are the diners from 40 years ago and I'm instantly hit with nostalgia. The staff are super friendly amazingly courteous and professional and the food is wholesome comfort food which always to me can turn a bad day into a good day just with a simple cup of coffee some eggs toast sausages... Nothing Better

I must have came on the wrong day... Previous reviews talk about great service, great atmosphere, great prices. Which is typically what I always experience at New Beginnings (28th street location). This last Saturday me & the family hit this spot around 1pm & as soon as we walked in I was face to face with a sign saying “section closed”. I wasn’t greeted or spoke too, we awkwardly walked over to a booth & sat down. 15 min later our server came by with some waters (thank you). We got our order in & the food time was not bad. But I just couldn’t get over the service & how the place looked. Everyone seemed very confused, the 3 servers that I did see couldn’t wait to go outside for a break, since that’s all I over heard for the next 20min. Customers who were sitting when we came in were just getting there orders in by the tome we were... Did I mention that they were not busy? Seriously, I was shocked but happy because I was in no mood to wait (hangry was setting in). The boys bussing on the floor were constantly moving but seemed confused or uncomfortable, the cooks on the grill seemed good to go. After all said & done my jumbo cinnamon roll was definitely old, those canned mushrooms you used in my omelette were a few days old (you can just taste it). Check your day dots please! & to the server who asked when we were paying at the register if we could VERBALLY tell her how much to tip on OUR card so SHE could punch it in rather then us writing it in was completely rude & embarrassing. Coming from a customer service background, I just couldn’t believe it & was totally taken back. It was not fantastic service nor did I feel that my food for TWO adults & ONE child was worth $51.00 but now I have to either insult you by telling you what I want to really tip you, or be a nice gal & tip that 10%. All while other customers are behind us also waiting to pay & now dreading the same question you just asked me. Super bummed this location does not stand up to some...

I have not been here since I was very young and I stopped in for some lunch today around 11 am with my girlfriend. While she was in the bathroom I overheard a blatantly racist comment from one of the servers. She was not quiet about it either. She was yelling loud enough for everybody in the restaurant to hear what she said clearly. I was originally going to just give a vague description of what she said so as not to upset anybody but I have changed my mind and I feel like people should know the type of behavior that is tolerated in this public establishment. She was speaking to a table of two seated near the front register and here is what she said. "I hate when they start talking in Asian and I KNOW they are talking about me. Dont you just hate it?! I'm like come on speak in English Ching Chang!" I was very upset when I heard this. I wish I could say that I couldn't believe what I was hearing....however I am quite aware of the presence of racism and segregation that still exists in West Michigan so I am not suprised. However it makes me sad to see that there are places where people feel comfortable acting and speaking in such a manner. Where was a manager? Why did nobody address her behavior? This is unacceptable.

Here is a description of the waitress as I did not catch her name. She was short and stout in stature with brown hair that was dyed fuschia some time ago. She had three ear piercings. She was wearing a grey shirt instead of blue so she may have been a manager for all I know. I am not one to write Google reviews but I didn't feel right keeping my mouth shut.

I will not be back and I am furious that I spent any amount of money at...

Arrived at 11:00am for Breakfast 🍳 & seated & waited & waited before waitress arrived - arox 4 min.

When waitress she did come by table she asked me what I wanted & I ordered; waitress brought me water & 10 min later I received my food.

Food arrived extremely hot (that’s good). I ordered a Greek Breakfast Omelet-that was Dry on top & thru middle as eggs had been over cooked-no moisture Inside of Omelet - which I added Ketchup to top of Omelet just to get thru it & make it go down.

Side Potatoes were cooked well & great; certainly didn’t make up for overcooked Omelet-or main course of Breakfast.

Biggest-disappointment-Wateress never returned once in all time I was there to give me additional water or asked me if I needed anything else; I walked out of Restaurant at 12:15pm.

Upon arriving at Desk to pay-hostesses who I believe was owner—asked if I wanted to leave a ‘tip’ even before asking me ‘how’ service was during my stay. I stated ‘no’ tip thank you as waitress-never returned yo my table to ask me if I wanted any additional service nor not even topping off ‘my water’

This is ‘greatest’ disservice ‘hostess’ never looked up from cash register to even look 👀 at me; this women was not interested at all in how my service or experience was at this ‘New-Beginning-Restaurant-in Grand Rapids, Michigan on Michigan Ave in downtown Grand Rapids. Think about what this New-Beginning Restaurant-was before as The Old Beginning; Yeaks. đŸ€”đŸ™ˆđŸ˜‚đŸ€”đŸ™ˆđŸ˜‚đŸ€”

Stay away public-New Beginning Restaurant in Grand Rapids, Mich on Michigan Ave is for those that aren’t particularly interested...
