Sparrows Coffee — Restaurant in Grand Rapids

Won’t be returning soon. My husband and I’s last two morning dine in visits here were interesting. A younger employee served us our coffee in to-go cups and charged us for whole new coffees when we asked for top offs to warm up the brewed coffee. Fast forward a couple weeks and we returned to the same employee working one morning. He gave us to go cups again for our brewed coffee despite telling him we were dining in. The coffee was spilling over the brim of the cup as well. We were getting the vibe that the employees were avoiding washing dishes as indicated by our croissants being served in to go bags too. The lights were also half off and the employees hadn’t even set out napkins yet despite coming 30 minutes after opening. The male employee seemed more consumed in playing with the music selection than customer service. Friendly staff, but they’re a little oblivious to what attracts customers to come to a local cafe vs fast...

This coffee shop has been on my list of places to try and today I made it happen! Upon driving up to the location I noticed cute signage outside as well as a nice little patio with decent seating. Parking is a little difficult at this location- there is only street parking available. Upon entry I was greeted by super friendly staff who were ready to take my order. They had some fun specials listed and a regular menu. The setting inside is quaint, as there are a few tables to sit at and limited counter seating. My order: An Iced Lady Lazarus- espresso, oat milk, honey, and lavender. It was delicious! Full of rich flavor with the perfect balance of all ingredients. I would order this again! Sparrows Coffee is conveniently located across the street from my school which made it a great place to go after. The coffee here is amazing and served in exceptionally cute mugs. Every interaction I've had with the baristas have been more than pleasant--they are so friendly and genuine. This is a really nice, calming environment for studying or meeting with a friend. It's design, both inside and out, is a stunning combination of vibrant and cozy. I especially love that there is large garage door which is kept open on nice days so you can feel the breeze inside the shop. Additionally, it supports local artist and musicians by posting flyers and displaying art. So happy Sparrows...
