An easy to miss place that has more to offer than meets the eye.
The Classic (Cheeseburger): Standard, but cleanly done! Ordered it with the half pound patty medium and it was indeed medium. The burger was mainly unassuming, but not bad. The toppings were perfect with balance, compliment, and even looked very presentable. Well worth what you pay for it.
Cajun Fritters: Slightly on the spicy side, which I enjoy. A thick crunchy exterior with a medium fluffy interior. Good, but I only received 3 after an upcharge of $4 (upgraded from chips). They looked tiny on the plate and didn’t seem worth the money for how many I got.
Atmosphere: You almost miss this place due to its unassuming exterior, but the interior is cozy, professional, and even a bit majestic. The staff AND patrons are amazingly friendly. There is a lot of wood trim and warm ambience. The staff wear black and are generally well dressed. It is not uncommon for customers to wear whatever, though.
Service: Amazing and fast. They had plenty of staff and a great system worked out. It was a well oiled machine, but with a welcoming personality. My burger was served less than 10 minutes after ordering it. The waitress was generally quick and active to my needs. When she was unavailable, others were quick to help with abundant positivity.
Menu: The website is not updated with the current pricing. See my menu pictures for the most recent pricing.
They have a lot of gluten-free substitutes according to the menu. Might be worth checking out later. (I did not try the...
Read moreI ordered delivery, so I can't rate the other aspects of the location. As a decade plus resident of New Orleans, I can tell you that the taste of the red beans and rice is more or less true to its origins. The flavor profile was respectable for the traditional dish, and I was generally pleased with the presentation. The beans lacked that perfect creamy texture, though, which is a downside.
I have two reasons for rating this as a 3 out of 5. The first is the cost. While red beans and rice is historically enjoyed by the majority of the Creole, Cajun, and other folks in Louisiana, it is generally a very cheap dish. We're talking about the food of the impoverished in many regions in the world. To charge $17 for something that costs less than a burger to create is exorbitant, to say the least.
This overpriced item is made a bit more insulting by the beans to rice ratio. Again, as a long time resident of New Orleans, I can tell you that the appropriate ratio is approximately 3:1 (sometimes even 2:1) beans to rice. This was closer to 3:2. This mixture further reduces any creamy texture to the dish, and, while it is far from unpalatable, makes the dish not worth the...
Read moreI think we found our new hangout! We tried this place for the first time a couple of weeks ago and we went home full and happy! I ordered the Blackened Chicken sandwich with the Cajun Fritters. First off the fritters were amazing and probably the best thing on the menu. Do not hesitate to order them! I really enjoyed my sandwich but it was messy to eat and it could've had a little more kick to it. My spouse ordered the gumbo which he enjoyed but he prefers it spicier. Our son ordered the Black and Blue burger. He said was too salty but other than that it was good. He also loved the fritters. I had a Old Fashioned cocktail that was good and the guys were happy with their beer choices. Our server was very attentive and professional. I wish I remembered his name to give him a shoutout here. The front exterior could use a spruce up with a new paint color and perhaps some flower boxes or planters by the door to make it more inviting. We will definitely be back and plan on trying the pizza and...
