Definitely has a small town diner feel, which is great if you love diners. Staff was very friendly and made lots of coffee rounds to make sure your coffee never went dry. The food was decent other than the French toast, it was great! A couple things that could have been better, they seem to have trouble getting hash browns cooked all the way through so it’s not raw in the middle yet not burnt on the outsides(I remember this being an issue at their old location as well). Also, when dropping off food making sure to wait a moment to ask if anything else is needed is helpful, I ended up having to wait 5-10 mins for server to come back so I could ask for hot sauce. Had to wait another 5-10 mins after was done eating for check to be dropped off. But overall a good experience I would come back to the new location again.

This joint gets 4.6 stars, and I can see why. I was looking for a good tenderloin sandwich, and my go-to was closed on Mondays, so I tried TJ's. Glad I did. I've had cracker-breaded and flour-egg-flour before, but never cornmeal breaded. I guess one could call it Southern style. Really good, seasoned to perfection. Oh, and it truly was Giant! Big enough to stack double decker, and the bun is no slouch, but you'll never get your mouth around it. Super friendly servers, nice welcoming atmosphere. In a conversation with another diner, I learned that this is not their first go-round; a previous restaurant was lost to fire nearby several years ago, so they took over this spot when it went vacant and turned it into something really good. Nice menu variety, can't wait to come back and try something else.

I came here because it had nice reviews. I'm from out of town. I guess I came in on an off day. I ordered the TJs Cafe special. The plate serving was large and looked like a pretty mountain all covered in gravy. My eggs and ham were cooked nicely. The hashbrowns were completely burned and not drained. The biscuit on the bottom was full of grease. My waitress did not tell me about any specials, she never came by the table to check on my coffee. However she was prompt with the check when I pushed my plate away. The cashier was very sweet and nice she asked me if I told my server I said no. I probably would have told my server if she bothered to come back to the table. I heard other servers taking to the customer. So I guess they were having a bad day. But it was disapointing.

I’ve never experienced any issues with TJ’s Café in Grandview, MO until yesterday 9/24/2017 when I ordered $40 worth of food To-Go. I got home took 3 bites of the hash browns, then took 2 bites of the omelet. The second bite I had a mouth full of slimy, raw egg. I called them back and told them, the girl who answered, Angelina (far cry from Angel with her attitude out of this world) very rudely said “bring it back up here” then hung up in my face. Once there, she (Angelina) ripped the bag out of my hand & throws it on a chair behind her and said I will have them remake it for you. I simply said “after having a mouthful of slimy, raw egg I no longer want to eat anything, could I have my money back instead?” she continuously yelled at me that she couldn't give me a refund because she didn't know how (while slamming down a stapler, pen & papers on the desk a foot away from my face with several other customers right behind me waiting to pay) She stomps away and comes back two minutes later yelling "THE OWNER SAID TO REFUND YOU HALF BECAUSE IT’S HALF EATEN” The food was far from half eaten and I told her that. She rips the bag off the chair takes it to the kitchen counter where she slams it down, rips it open and while wavy her arms around like a crazy person screams “HALF EATEN IT’s HALF EATEN” I assure you three bites of hash browns and two bites of omelet if far from half eaten. I took the lousy half of the refund and asked when the owner will be back so I can get the remainder of my refund back, she yells with an attitude “IT DOESN’T MATTER HE WON’T GIVE YOU ANYTHING ELSE I GUARANTEE IT” All of this happened in front of my 8 year old daughter who was frightened by the whole situation. I have never been so disrespected in my entire life. Everyone in the entire restaurant heard her yelling at me. I’ve known the owner Jim Sadler since I was 2 years old & have been going to TJ’s & Reece’s (which he also previously owned) for 30 years now. We have spent thousands upon thousands of dollars there throughout the past 30 years. One would have thought surely if I discussed with him how disrespected I was by his employee & how I was served raw food he would be compassionate and apologize at the very least and perhaps offer to make good of the whole situation. NOT!!! When I went in today he had an attitude just as bad as his employee, called me a liar to my face, said the omelet was not raw, there was nothing wrong with it and he was not going to refund me back the rest of my money nor do anything else about it, then proceeds to rudely and sarcastically say “I’m sorry if you got your feeling hurt” REALLY!? And calling me a liar! Actually his employee Angelina is the liar, when I picked up my food, she said “I’ve got everything you need in the bag for you, ketchup, jelly, butter, syrup and silverware” none of it was in the bag except silverware. Other minor details that I wasn’t concerned about and didn’t even mention when returning the omelet nor to the owner…..the omelet box had a hole burned in it where something had melted the Styrofoam into the hash browns and omelet, the box the toast was in was all mangled, busted open with a crack across the whole top and would not even closed. Everything had been tossed into the bag every which way and both bags and all the boxes inside the bags were covered in grease. Also the pancakes for my kids that they refused to eat were horrible, couldn’t even pick one up without it crumbling apart in your hand, not to mention they came with no butter nor syrup and the kids said they tasted salty. I’m completely applaud the owner, Jim couldn’t care less about customer service, respecting and appreciating their customers, nor how his employees disrespect customers at his establishment. Last time I checked the customers are the reason you’re in business! They will never get another dime of my money. I strongly advise to not eat here unless you want utter disrespect and poor...

The food was pretty good. But the staff was very unorganized, there was only two other tables in the restaurant and I had to get up and ask for things. Then when it was time to check out I walked up to the cash register handed the lady the receipt she answered the phone and started taking it to go order I stood there for 11 minutes while she took it to go order, I set my things down on the counter in front of her to pick up my child and she grabbed my debit card and charged me for the entire ticket it was supposed to be divided in three ways. When she got off the phone I told her that she had made a mistake and I needed her to fix it and she said she did not know how if no one had ever showed her how to refund a card and redirect payment. When I asked her why she did it without speaking to me first, she actually started yelling at me telling me I shouldn't have had my card laying on top of my wallet if I didn't intend to pay with it. Very rude we have been coming to TJ since I was 8 years old from Lee's Summit because it was my mom's favorite restaurant we will not be returning, someone else came up and I explained the situation and she said there was no way to refund my card I ended up paying for five people's dinner that I did not intend to pay for because no one else had anything but a...

Brief: I like coming here whenever I have to visit Grandview. The food is decent and reasonably priced. The service has room for improvement but does a standard job. The atmosphere is cozy and reminds you of old breakfast diners.

Extended: Lots of good options and specials, you'll still almost always be paying anywhere from $20 or more for your order after tip, but it's typically decent and expected.

I ordered the breakfast burrito, it was shown on the whiteboard for $10, and whenever I got the bill I was charged for $11.50. I guess the server asked me if I wanted bacon, sausage or ham. So I chose ham. There was no mention from the server that there would be an upcharge and I personally can't support non-transparency like that. I probably would've let it go but whenever I went to the front to pay, I asked about it and the person at the front desk was trying to tell me that the whiteboard listed the upcharge. So I walked over and looked at it and no it didn't.

I've also started skipping the coffee because at this point it makes up 30% or more of your bill, and the service sometimes forgets to ask if you want anything with your coffee.

So while my experience isn't perfect, I still genuinely do like this place and would eat here again, minor...
