The Original Pancake House — Restaurant in Grapevine

When we came in there wasn't a host and it looks like there are 3 different potential host stands. So we just kind of stood at one until someone asked us. Others coming in after us were doing the same thing. I was also off put by how dirty everything seemed. The walls next to us in our booth had food stuck to the walls. The plastic promotional stuff, sugar, and condiments were all dirty on the outside. Usually this stuff gets cleaned at the end of every shift, but this looked like it hasn't been cleaned in months.

The other odd thing was that I ordered a tea and the server brought me a cup of hot water plus a teapot of water, with one tea bag. Am I supposed to soak the cup and then put the used up teabag into the teapot? Anyway, she brought me another teabag when I asked, but it was just kind of like "what's the plan here with two separate cups of water and one tea bag?" Grateful for the generous amount of tea, just odd.

The food did take quite a long time, but everything did taste really good. It's been a few years since I've been to an OHoP and wasn't let down by the food. Sausage was the best I've had in a long time. Sourdough French toast was delicious. Appreciated that you can swap your pancake side for something else. Husband said the coffee was awful. I also wish they carried stevia. The options were Splenda (chlorine), sweet and low, or sugar.

Overall, I would go back if the place got a good scrub down. I think people would also appreciate some signage indicating where the host stands is so they don't all feel like knobs standing in the middle of the front walkway unsure...

I have always loved any OPH I have been to so I had high hopes coming here for the first time. We arrived at 1020am on a Saturday and thankfully you can check in online via Yelp through Google to get in the wait line in advance. We were 13th when we left the hotel and 3rd in line when we pulled in. I got us checked in after parking and 5 minutes later we were up to be seated. Be sure to use this function if coming in on a busy weekend!

We had drinks served fast and orders placed soon after. I got an item I had not seen on the menu before, the healthy lifestyle omelet with a side of 3 ancient grain hotcakes. My wife did the eggs and 2 sides (bacon and hotcakes) and my son did a breakfast burrito with bacon added and a side of hotcakes and potatoes.

I crushed my meal and my wife and son nearly demolished theirs also. My only gripe was that the former buckwheat hotcakes were better than the new ancient grain cakes. I usually get those but the server said the recipe changed and they were not as good as before. The ancient grain cakes tasted like any ordinary whole wheat hotcake, still good yes but not amazing. I love how they whip the eggs for the omelets making them light and airy and larger than normal omelets.

We came in early in the morning before 8 am & they had a plumbing issue, so they couldn’t seat us yet but we were able to sit & wait in their entrance area. We were told it would be about a 20 minute wait, but it was quicker than that. I think it was the manager & she offered us coffee & I got hot water. She was great!

Great customer service from the minute we walked in! Right after we sat down to wait, she came back to us to let us know that we would be able to be seated at a table to wait until they can serve us or take our orders. Again, right after we sat down & not too long after they gave us menus just to look over for the time being, then we were able to order right after.

I usually take photos before we dig in, but this time I didn’t, so took a picture of our leftovers. It’s not that great of a photo, compared to what I would normally take but the best of what I could take.

Our server Gamil is always great when he serves us! He’s attentive & always on top of it! Regardless of their situation early in the morning they still let us sit inside & wait, & took care of us. We’ve been here many times & they’re always pretty good, as well as the food!
