The Freeze — Restaurant in Grayslake

I have an allergy to milk, and I specifically said I’m allergic , to the cashier. When I’m about halfway done with it, I tasted a sprinkle. “Hey mom do they put sprinkles in the slushies.” My mom told me no, so I discarded my concerns as nothing, but a few minutes later my mouth starts salivating and began to get an itch in the back of throat! My mom then goes to the counter to ask, which is when they proceed to say that they use the same mixing equipment on everything. This is by far the dumbest, most disrespectful action at a food business that I’ve ever experienced. I’ve been allergic my my entire 19 years of my existence and I have never ran into a business who did not think to separate the mixing tools. They were told I had a milk allergy and even told me that they would make sure the slushee would be made milk free. How this happened is beyond me. Do they not know how to clean their equipment? Did they think that I was just saying I had an allergy so I could get my drink made separately and special? I will never come back, and if you have any serious type of allergy I recommend you go somewhere that actually insures they are handling food service as they are supposed to. This freeze here is the best thing ever! I waited day after day to come and I finally got the chance to grab a bite and dessert! There was a freeze similar to this in chicago, but it got shut down unfortunately 3 years ago! I was very sad because I enjoyed having burgers and fries and ice cream sundae simultaneously

However, ever since i found out another freeze in illinois, I was excited to try it out. Sadly, it was too far from Chicago, so I had to wait and wait till that day, which was today! The weather was beautiful and so was the place. I love seeing families enjoying their meals and laughing (warms my heart ♥️😊). I ordered a double burger with fries & medium hot fudge sundae and everything was just amazing! The workers there were super nice and caring throughout each order! The burger was cooked to perfection and it was like eating like a smashburger! The fries were yummy & crispy! The sundae was so original and flavorful! I had to order 2 more burgers and a sundae for to go!

Overall, this was definitely a good day to stop, eat their delicious food,& enjoy the weather! Highly recommended! Even though it is far, I'd be happy to...

This is what you would expect from a little ice cream shop. Fried foods, ice cream, floats, shakes, smoothies... it's a neighborhood keystone establishment run by a guy my husband knew in grade school. I love how it brings the community together as a meeting spot, and a place to socialize. I know this is a strange thing to say about an ice cream shop because this is where people come for sweet stuff, but the only thing I don't totally love about the ice cream here is how overly sweet everything tastes to me. Like over the top sweet. I definitely enjoy the occasional scoop of ice cream, but unlike scooped ice cream, the soft serve is super sweet, and the toppings are not too flavorful but very sugary. I didn't rate this very low because I don't want to ding this place for my general dislike of the overly sweet American palate. And sweet memories of the festive atmosphere there on lively summer evenings with my kids more than makes up for the "meh" ice cream. TLDR: I go for the atmosphere more than the food.
