Due to my limited income with being on Social Security, I don't eat out very often, but I decided to treat myself since it had been a while. I placed a to-go order at Perkins and was very much looking forward to my first out-of-home dining experience in a long time. When I picked up my order, the service staff was helpful in making sure that my 20% first-time discount was honored, even though the barcode reader wouldn't work on the coupon that I had download, when I signed up on their app.
Because my order was to go, I can't really comment on the cleanliness or ambience of the restaurant, as I only walked in the front door and picked up my order at the counter, but it looked nice. The same applies in regards to table service, as I did not experience that.
When I got my meal home and unwrapped it, I was unfortunately pretty disappointed and regretted my decision to spend more than I normally would have for dinner. I ordered their two pork chop dinner, which came with two side orders, but surprisingly no bread. With the pork chops, you do have the choice of having them regular, garlic or teriyaki glazed. Teriyaki is one of my favorite flavors, so that is the one I picked. My two side orders were asparagus and mashed potatoes. While placing the order, I was efficiently asked what kind of gravy I would like for the mashed potatoes, and I chose cream gravy.
For reference, I have included two photos of the order that I received when I unbagged it.
While pretty thin, the pork chops were good-sized and had a nice taste, including the teriyaki glaze. However as you can see by the picture, they not only glazed the teriyaki pork chops, they glazed the mashed potatoes and the asparagus too, so I was not able to use the delicious-looking side of cream gravy ... and asparagus that should have tasted like asparagus, tasted like teriyaki asparagus.
Also the side order of asparagus was really on the meager side, and quite over cooked, or had been pre-prepared and been sitting around quite a while. The restaurant wasn't busy when I picked up my order. I picked it up because I was only eating by myself, not because I was in a hurry. I would much rather have preferred freshly-cooked asparagus.
Pouring teriyaki glaze over the entire meal, and overcooking the asparagus are amateur mistakes, that could have easily been avoided.
Altogether, a pretty disappointing experience, especially just based on receiving food and not even commenting on the restaurant itself, or any table service.
Undecided on whether I will give it another try sometime. Unfortunately I don't have the income to...
Read moreThe food is ok but the portions vs the price....ya, not even a one star. The prices are California prices, I can say that cuz we moved here from Cali. The prices keep going up but the waiters and waitresses only get $2-$3 an hour!!!! They make their money on tips. Tips should be that, TIPS not their wage, and if that's their wage, why do the prices continue to go up n up. I can take my family to IHOP and eat cheaper and get more food. California requires employers to pay their waiters and waitresses the state min wage cuz, well, hello, it's a WAGE....this owner pays them the Kansas state min, I understand that, but how are they to make good tips if the prices are so much?!?! I would understand the price going up cuz you are paying them a decent wage, but $2-$3 an hour AND you keep raising prices?!?! Then to top it off, the waiters and waitresses have to pay the runners, they bring the food out to you, they have to pay them a portion out of the tips they get, to the runners. So the runners make a good wage and tips, but the waiters and waitresses live souly on their tips?!?!? This place is twisted to the core. Sounds like the owner is greedy and being dishonest to the customers. Won't see me eat here again!!!! In Cali, everything is 2-3xs higher than it is here....water, gas, electric, food, state min wage, taxes, etc.....but they have the food prices as if we are in Cali....how much profit does this owner...
Read moreI was in town for a over night stay, and went to this Perkins to eat the first night, and Caylinn (Caitlin?) was very nice, and courteous to me. She made me feel welcome. The next morning I went back for breakfast, and after the hostess seated me, I sat there for 10 minutes before Amanda, one of the servers came over and asked if anyone had taken my order. I told her no, and that I had been sitting there for 10 minutes. She immediately apologized and asked for my drink order, and brought it. She then asked if I had decided what I wanted. I told her yes. Not 5 minutes later she was bringing me my order. She took take very good care of me, and made me feel like I mattered. I asked to speak to the manager but she was busy, so I spoke to her Assistant, I told him what happened, but that Amanda stepped up and took very good care of me. This place is nice, and clean, and the food was very good. Maybe the other servers were just to busy but, it still doesn't excuse no one coming over to take my order before Amanda did. She noticed me when she was coming in for her shift and immediately took care of me. If you happen to get Amanda or Caylinn for your server, treat them good,...
