La Chata is an incredibly charming yet sometimes flawed experience. The renovation from a bus station to a quaint little diner is nothing short of impressive, and yet strips of tape still line the wooden rafters overhead as telltale reminders of the undertaking.
The service is nothing short of timely, courteous, and exceptionally warm and welcoming.
The food tasted amazing and the selection was varied and diverse. The only sticking point was that while delicious, the food was at times...wrong. My wife ordered eggs Benedict, it was really good, and yet the hollandaise wasnt hollandaise. It tasted more like a cream sauce with chicken stock and was pale white and a bit runny. It tasted pleasant but not like hollandaise. At the same time I ordered a side of biscuits and gravy. The biscuits didnt tast homemade, weren't buttery or flakey, and the "sausage' gravy tasted like turkey gravy that had a lone piece of pork in it and went heavy handed on the black pepper. It was a far cry from real biscuits and gravy, and yet it tasted good and came as a side to my breakfast burrito. Just the simple fact i was able to order that combo with a giant michelada to wash it down makes my soul happy.
All in all I will happily come here again and recommend it to others. I do feel like there is room for them to improve, but whoever said that is...
Read moreWe had no idea it was a buffet on the weekends. We were wanting Mexican and chose to randomly try this place. There was no explanation as to the buffet setup. Nothing is labeled at the buffet so unless you’re familiar with all the items you have no idea what you are getting. There was only one protein option available at a time and it was almost out when we were there. Tortillas weren’t readily available. Drinks aren’t easily accessible. The buffet only includes milk, water, or juice, but all are behind the counter so you have to wait for a staff member. We went up a second time to see if any more protein options were out, but nothing was available. We came back to our table and our silverware and drinks were gone. They cleared our table when it was obvious we hadn’t left and it was not busy in there, maybe only five people total. There was food all over the floor under multiple tables, but that didn’t seem to be a priority to clean up. When it came time to pay, I stood there for about five minutes or so with no one coming to assist me. Two employees were right there and looked at me and could see I had my card ready to pay, but didn’t help me. Finally a worker came so I could pay my bill. Approximately $37 for two people was not worth it for the...

Yes, another new Mexican restaurant in Green Bay! This one is located in the old Grayhound Station where Main St and Cedar St meet.
The owners put a lot of money and effort into this place and it is BEAUTIFUL inside.
They serve breakfast, burgers as well as authentic Mexican food.
They do not offer complimentary chips and salsa. You cannot get a margarita but they do sell beer.
Steak Taco Flavor: 4 Fullness: 4 Appearance: 4
We were initially thrown off by the size of the steak due to it being such large pieces and were expecting it to be hard to eat, but we were so wrong. This meat is extremely tender and nicely seasoned. The tortillas were fried on the flattop and held up well.
Service was a little slow, even though we were the only one in the restaurant, however it’s a new business and it appeared the server was still learning.
The only issue was that the price on the menu for one taco said $1.99, the server told us the taco was $2 and then we were charged $2.50 a taco.
We will definitely go back.
