Went to the Bourbon Room for the first time tonight. We brought two friends with us and we're very excited to try it out! We walked in at 6:00 and grabbed a seat at the bar to have a drink. I asked for the barrel aged old fashioned to which the bartender replied "you can have it in April." I asked "excuse me? I don't understand." she then sighed and said "it's made from a barrel aged old fashioned that won't be ready until April!" I was a little confused and asked if maybe there was another old-fashioned I could have on the menu. She sighed and said "yeah, there's another one right above it on the menu" and then slid a menu across the bar at me. I felt a little put off, her immediate response after I ordered it should have been something to the tune of..."Im sorry but that is made from an aged bourbon that isnt quite ready but can I offer you this instead?" Simple, right? A few minutes later a Hostess came and asked if we were ready to be seated. We told her we were and asked if we should follow her to which she replied "Yes, follow me." We followed her back to the hostess stand where she grabbed a couple of menus and then turned her back to us and immediately seated a different couple that had just walked in the front door. My friends and I kind of just stood there, hovering, wondering what we were supposed to be doing because she was completely ignoring us at that point and we are standing in the dining area as she explained the menu to the couple that had just walked through the front door. A nice young man from the wait staff apologized, grabbed some menus and showed us to a table. We were a little confused and put off because this all happened within the first 15 minutes of us walking in the door. Our very nice waitress came over and asked if we had any questions. She explained the specials (after we asked for them). We tried to order crab cakes and she told us they were out of them for the night. We were pretty confused since it was a Friday night at 6:30. She gave us a few more minutes as we needed to figure out something else that we wanted on the menu. When she came back and took her order we also placed a drink order. She came back a few minutes later and told us that they were out of the bourbon we had ordered. Again, we chose something different off the menu. When we got our food it was just so-so. My husband ordered the Catch of the Day which was cold. I really really wanted to love the Bourbon Room but I don't think we will be back. For the price there are many other restaurants with much better service and much better food in the...
Read moreI've been wanting to try this place, had heard some good things. Went last Saturday with another couple. We planned on having drinks and dinner. Terrible disappointment. Upon walking in the first thing that hit us was an overwhelming fishy smell, which dissipated after a while, apparently someone's order. We took seats at the bar, not overly busy after a few minutes the bartender comes up and says "what can I getcha" ok so I say this is our first time here. She doesn't offer a menu or explain the bourbon menu or anything else. I have to ask if there is a drink menu or a list of beers. What I was handed was 3 pieces of paper stapled together, wrinkled and covered with brown stains, wow that is classy.... Bartender returns and just looks at us, like we should initiate our order conversation, not asking us if we have chosen anything. I then had to ask how do I know what is on tap and what is in bottles as the menu doesn't say. We were sitting near the front, so I really couldn't see what was on tap. I am told in a short manner that "oh those are all bottles on there, the tap beers are on there and points to a flip card menu on the bar. Not like hey here there are, this is what we have. So we finally order a beer and look around. The tv is on EWTN, like I wanna say the rosary at the bar while I am out, what the heck! The other tv was on some awards show rerun. Staff completely oblivious to that fact or not told what is expected. So I go to use the restroom, what a joke, the soap dispenser is broken off the wall laying on the counter and the waste basket is full, overloaded and papers all over the floor, and for whatever reason the restroom and back area are freezing cold. As for the group of people at the far end of the bar, I suppose you can't keep the neighborhood out. Can't rate the food as we never ordered, though the orders of food near us looked nice. Needless to say we finished our one drink and left ASAP! I had hopes for somewhere new and cool to hang out. This is...
Read moreWe really wanted to like this place. The first time we were there my husband ordered the Reuben and I had Monk Fish. The fish was excellent but the Reuben was fatty and only partially edible. This last visit my husband got garlic and asiago wings and the house salad. I got their "Hearty Chicken Noodle Soup" and the wedge. The wedge was good. The soup was all noodles with zero chicken, one carrot, and one mushroom. The flavor was terrible. I had one taste and didnt eat the rest. My husband specifically asked for the wings to be done well, but they were slimy and he only ate two. When we got the bill it was $88, which seemed like a lot. When we checked. We had been charged $50 for the extra side of dressing my husband asked for with his salad. Obviously a mistake, it was corrected, but come on! A place that's trying to be high end can't cover $0.50 within its costs rather than nickle and diming a customer? To top off the experience, the server saw we hardly ate any of the food and never asked if we enjoyed our meal. If a place wants people to come back, it seems like ensuring a quality experience would matter. (And no, it wasn't so busy that she didnt have time). We always try to support local, but we will pass on...
