Captain Joe's Grill — Restaurant in Green Oak Charter Township

My first time here. Got there (11:40) before the lunch crowd. Thank goodness. Looks like as popular venue. Close to the water of Whitmore Lake. On the door was a notice for servers and kitchen help. I say this cuz our server was "it" for the entire crowd and room was pretty large as time went on.Nonetheless we were not rushed and food came in normal time. Crowd was coming in at a nice pace. By the time we left a large group of lunchers were there. I ordered surf and turf (steak medium) and grilled shrimp along with the side of roasted potatoes and grilled mushrooms. To drink I started w coffee while waiting for my friend, then switching over to the Summer Shandy brew. I was happy with meal especially the steak which was surprisingly tender and flavorful. It was better than steaks I've had elsewhere here in Livingston county. My friend also had the same entre and like his steak as well. The shrimp were hot and tasty. For dessert I could not decide between the almond cake or the tiramisu . Our waitress told me the tiramisu was made in house and cake was made locally. So I ate the cake there and carried out the other. I recommend either or both. Both are light so are good compliments to the entre. So in spite of needing more ees staff I Captain Joe's 5 star cuz server knew her stuff and food was fun . A good place to return IF you like roundabouts!!! My Google map GPS was confusing and little to no signage to help you find rhe right road to the restaurant . I went around in circles on/off US 23 two times. I came on US 23 south. There was a sign pointing to Captain Joe's once I found the right road which was not marked either. At night it could be dangerous if you are not familiar to this stupid roundabout. We came here on Mother's Day at 3. So it wasn't terribly busy, which I find nice! I didn't feel crowded or anything. The waitress was very friendly. Checked on us often and made sure we had everything we needed.

The appetizers ordered were falafel, calamari, and coconut shrimp. Everyone loved them. I got a burger and it was delicious. The fries were crispy and seasoned very well! My husband loved his steak, but just wished he had a little more of an amount for sides. For instance, he wished he had more mashed potatoes on his plate. My brother had the bluegill and perch special, he said it was great. Had The Captain's Bomb as dessert. He highly compliments that as well. Other brother had a steak and he said he really enjoyed it. Also had The Captain's Bomb. He gushed about, absolutely loved it. My mom had the Cajun Chicken Alfredo and she said it was very delicious. Her and I shared the Kahlua Brownue. VERY decadent and so delicious! Rich- soft and warm. The ice cream and whipped cream went with it amazingly. My Dad had the blue crab stuffed Halibut special and he loved it. We all had a drink off the drink list, I recommend the Blueberry Lemonade cocktail. I had 4 of them. AMAZING. We will definitely be coming here again! And I would recommend this restaurant...

Terrible service. We were seated right away. Hotness were very nice and doing a great job. We were greeted by our waitress, Natalie B. She took our drink order, we waited a bit. It was a bottle of wine, so shouldn't take that long. Then we ordered calamari, which she didn't bring. We waited and waited and waited. Finally she came back "Are you looking to order?" Uh, yeah we are here for dinner! She took our ordered and offered us bread. We never saw her again. Someone else brought our dinner, she never brought the bread, she never once checked on us. We wanted more things. She checked on the table next to us 4 times while we were there and the one next to us 3 times. She only came back to give us our bill. just dropped it and left. Didn't ask how our meal was , didn't thank us, didn't tell us to have a nice night, nothing! Just put it down without a one word and walked away. I had to go get a hostess and ask about bagging up our wine. We don't go out very much, we had for a table of 2 a $100 tab. We just got off a long day at work.
