I live near and have frequented the original location, so I was thrilled to see them open on the West Side! I was less thrilled to see that they are using really unimpressive disposable plastic dishware/styrofoam cups instead of proper bowls and cups. Guess we're not even pretending this is real ramen and a real experience anymore, huh?
Gang, this is soup. This is hot soup. Please don't serve it to me in plastic that's clearly overheated; I'm not a fan of nanoplastics in my food, especially when it also makes the presentation and readiness of a newly opened location look abysmal.
The food tasted good, though my table-mates noted their ramen was too salty (and yeah, even for soy-broth it was), though that was helped by adding some extra flavor from the dispensers at the table.
Ordering was easy but I had a question about one of the dishes that the person taking the orders had to have clarified by another employee; I get it, it's newly opened, but that was a little annoying considering my question was something that shouldnt have even needed to be asked: "is this in the food? It's not listed on the menu description but it's in the picture of the food on the menu"
They've given me little reason to visit here when I'm on the West Side when compared to their Blue Ash location. Not sure why they skipped out on some of the easier bits that made the other location special. When you can't replicate the space and decor, at least replicate the charming serving experience, with proper bowls and spoons that won't get physically looser due to the heat of the ramen.
Space is limited but the ramem-stand decor is cute and topical and the pop/anime Japanese music is a nice touch, even if I miss the nods to anime from the...
Read moreI really wanted to like this place. The reviews were great, and I love checking out new ramen spots. But I was sorely disappointed. First, everything is served in single use plastic ware. This is definitely more of a fast casual ramen place, but this was very disappointing, especially not having the traditional soup spoon.
We ordered the the tonkotsu ramen, miso ramen, and takoyaki. I have never had tonkotsu ramen be so milky, it was completely off putting. It was not the rich and savory broth I was hoping for. Tonkatsu is supposed to be creamy, not milky. The noodles could have been maruchan instant noodles and I wouldn’t have been surprised. The toppings were alright, the egg was pretty solid. The takoyaki was good, nice and hot. The miso ramen was very average.
Overall, you get what you pay for with this place. But I encourage you to spend a few dollars more and go to Genki in Oakley or Cafe Mochiko in Walnut Hills if you’re looking for a satisfying...
Read moreWell worth the trip (no matter what part of the city you’re coming from)! Everything we’ve had has been amazingly good tasting, obviously fresh ingredients, and the broth is the greatest our family has ever had — among local rivals and likely as good or better than any ramen shop we’ve visited around the US & abroad! The atmosphere is super chic and fun, nice music, plus very clean. Staff are all very kind and happy to answer questions or help guide you if you’ve never been to a Ramen shop… but the menu also offers pictures and food descriptions too. We have observed a good amount of carry out business when there but the staff still takes good care of their in-shop customers without chaos or order issues. Prices are very reasonable. This is exactly what we’ve been hoping to see on the Westside, are thrilled they are here & hope they stay for...
