The best part about our visit was the service. Our server was so sweet. The potato skins were large and cheesy. Very good. Came with a little slide of sour cream for each skin. The Caesar had radish slices which was confusing, but it also came with a generous portion of croutons (which is nice if you like rye croutons, but I'm not a huge fan). Pepsi products are served here, 👌 and diet mountain dew is available. My favorite part of any meal is dessert and there were PLENTY of options to choose from. Even though I know Ron's Roost for their pie since I used to stop for a pie slice for my Grandma on my way to visits, we had a chocolate cheese cake. I don't know if they make their desserts in house, but they were inexpensive, and we shared the cheesecake: the star of the cheesecake is the thick layer of chocolate on top (not necessarily in a good way). The real star of the cheesecake should have been the original flavored cheesecake under that layer of chocolate. That, by itself, was delicious. The chocolate on top was hard to cut through with my fork and we kept smooshing the cheesecake flat attempting to insert our forks. Eventually, I flipped the cheesecake over (totally upside down), and I could break pieces off more easily. Some might love the thick layer of hard chocolate, but the flavor of the chocolate itself was overly processed and the cheesecake would have been better without it. Still, our server said it is her favorite dessert item, so this might be well enjoyed by others. The Graham cracker crust was thin but mostly present. While the chicken seems to be made in house, the cheesecake is likely store bought since the slices seemed identical and not custom cut.
Friday- Sunday there is a salad bar + Fried Chicken buffet for $15.99, which is a similar price to ordering chicken from the menu. The bonus of the bar is the variety of sides plus salad you'd get "all you can eat" in the restaurant. I'm guessing the large chicken dinner would be more than I can eat, so I'll have leftovers to take home, and that's what I did. If the salad bar had more lettuce or lettuce toppings, I might have gone with that. The salad bar part of the bar had cottage cheese, and salad sides, but I wanted more salad toppings, which was the final factor to just order of the menu and add the salad from the...
Read moreThis is an awesome restaurant and I cannot thank the owners and staff enough for everything they do. My family and I have come here for years to dine in and carry out, and now my brother and I have come here together every single weekend for the past 4 years. I have never once had bad service or a bad meal at Ron's Roost. It is THE best fried chicken you will ever taste, and their buffets on Fri and Sat. are clean and always fresh. It is so nice to be in a restaurant where all of the servers are experienced, friendly, competent, and efficient. I guarantee all of you that the owners make sure of it. You can just tell as soon as you walk in that the leadership is fantastic, and the whole system runs smoothly and is well-staffed. Every employee I have encountered there has always been friendly, personal, and accommodating. Some of these people post such negative comments and are completely wrong.
As a teacher, it is amazing how many restaurants, both fast foods and supposed to be nice sit down family restaurants that are out there today that have the laziest staff, poor management, and employees with terrible attitudes towards their customers. And they're not just millennials...... Ron's Roost is a great group of leaders that CARE and give you the best experience. So many of their servers have been there for many years. I guarantee you so many others would say the same thing about their service. What a great place in Cincinnati.
For any of you that disagree, remember this: Every Friday, Saturday, or Sunday night every weekend that I go the place is packed, often times with a short wait if you don't get there before 5:30. Regardless of what you think, they do a phenomenal business on paper and you can tell from the atmosphere and leadership...
Read moreMy boyfriend, myself, and a couple of friends stopped by after the Reds game last night. This was a first time for all of us. My boyfriend had wanted to try this place for a while because he always heard good things from the locals.
From the time we walked in the door, the service was sub-par at best. The hostess was nice, but you could tell she was annoyed that we were there. The restaurant was not busy, there were about 4-5 other small tables already there.
Once we were seated at a table next to the bar, it took our waitress about 10 minutes to come over and take drink orders. No big deal. Another 20 minutes passed and we had drinks and had placed our orders. The older lady who was our server came back to check on us and my boyfriend kindly asked if they still gave rolls to the tables while we waited (he had been told they did that). Before he could finish his question, the waitress cut him off and got super snippy, stating that she had another (yes, one other) table to take care of too and that she had to put in our order because it takes so long and the cooks were trying to close (this was around 840...their sign on the front door states that they seat people until 9p).
After that, the whole experience was uncomfortable for us as guests. We didn't want to ask for anything from our server for fear of getting snapped at again. At that point we just wanted to eat and leave.
The food was okay, but nothing special. I had chicken and waffles, the chicken was good but the waffle was really hard for some reason. Even just my food ended up making me a little sick by the time we got home. Everybody else was okay with their food, but again, nothing special.
The only possible way I would try this place again would be for a take out order...and probably...
